Re: My first old truck
Thanks Sour and Three. I am going to start welding in the next week or so. I am doing things a little at a time as the baby is due in July so funds and time are becoming more limited by the day.

Re: My first old truck
Its not road ready but we are getting there. Since the babe got here I took an extended break but now I am getting ready to go for a drive. I got everything moved and have started reassembly. I have a new cab, new front clip, new (old) doors, etc. As soon as I get everything put on and lined up there will be some sandpaper andpaint flying around.

Re: My first old truck
The thing I found is cab prices vary greatly...I bought mine from a good friend of mine so that price is null . I have seen everything from $500.00 to $2500.00 of course the more work it needs the cheaper it will be. I actually have one that I am willing to part with. I have all the patches that it needs (full floor pan, corners, and rockers) that I will sell with it. let me know if you want pics.

Re: My first old truck
I started with just about the same truck... same color and all. I got rid of those leafs and went with a trailing arm setup from Porterbuilt. Looks like you are off to a good start. Keep us posted on the cab. Are you getting the cab media blasted?

Re: My first old truck
The cool thing about that cab is that it was media blasted, then the passenger side corner was cut out and my buddy found another cab that needed nothing so he welded the corner in (didnt line it up very well and I will redo it) and primed it. He is also the one I got the doors from. He had the doors painted and installed then decided to go with 1 piece power windows so he got another set and added everything to them then in an afternoon swapped the doors I have for the power 1 piece glass set.

Re: My first old truck
Ok, so the hood is on, all the panels are lined up (corner still has to be fixed).
I still have to put the fuel cell under the bed, cut the rest of the wood out of the bed and tighten up the u-bolts to get it ready for the body shop. I am going to wait until after its painted to put the glass in it. Question: Should I put the motor in now or wait till after its painted? I am not going to wire it until after its painted. |

Re: My first old truck
So I havent stopped working, just havent been posting updates like I should be. I have scrapped the lwb for a swb. I re-did a short frame, lowered it, dropped my 402/400 in it and had a custom driveshaft made...Thank you to Clinard's Driveshaft in Nashville for the awesome work and the quick turn-around. I also decided to upgrade to rear disk brakes, I will post more pics in the next few days as it is at my buddys shop getting ready for not-final assembly. HID front lights were added, Blazer tank conversion, all new bushings front to back, all new brake lines front to rear, new dash, a little more motor work, the list is really long and I am sure I have missed a few things. But, here is a start.

Re: My first old truck
So I was on my way home the other day and this truck passed me, needless to say a fire was lit and I got moving on my truck again. I think that all the B.S. that was keeping me away has settled down, for a week or two anyway.

Re: My first old truck
And as of today I have a primed cab and doors. The new fenders have been fit and are ready to be worked, and the new bed has been assembled and ready to be worked. After some talking to the little lady we are shooting for a drive between august 4th and 7th.
