Re: 1SIK69 build....

this is what we did over the weekend. Lowers and a crossmember. Kinda working back and forth between the rear set up and stripping the firewall.

Looks really good, i had to take a double look at your cap on the diff, i was like, wtf, but never mind it is your cap for the rims, my bad, i will say one thing, that pipe you are using will be fine, but make sure that you gusset it some, front and possible the bottom, otherwise it will flex the frame and crack out, other wise great job guys.

Thanks. Well today it seems like a took a step forward and then had to take 2 steps back. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive. I got to use a manual pipe bender. That freaking sucked. We made some horse shoes to wrap around the lower bag brackets. Oh yeah and we decided to do bag on bars instead of over the axle. I am also thinking of using a wishbone as well.

thanks guys. I am not sure if I am gonna make it. I am gonna keep at it. I have one week to finish the bags and put the motor in. If not it wont be cuz I didnt try. I may just wait til Gator Drag in may. That way I can take my time and do it right. I hate half assing ****.
Well here is an update on what I got done the past few days. Well yesterday it rained all day so needless to say I wasn't out working on it being I am working out of a car port. I got all my valves plumbed and figured out how I was gonna run my compressors and tanks. The fitting are freaking expensive. I had to go buy about $50 worth of fittings today. I also got the holes drilled for the upper bag mounts up front. I am gonna take a wire wheel to the control arms and frame and give it a coat of flat black before I get it all together. I bought the rubber break line that runs from the calipers to hard line and the one for the back. I also ordered a new master cylinder and break booster and proportioning valve. I need to go to the pick n pull and get the break lines off a later model truck since all my breaks are off an 86 Suburban. I ordered a halnd full of stuff from LMC and ebay yesterday. So once I get a seat and break lines I should have everything to put this thing back together. Ok enough of me rambling. I will update more as it happens.

Re: 1SIK69 build....

Today it finally stopped raining. I decided to get the frame cleaned up in the front and strip the firewall so I can get it smoothed out and ready for the motor. I probably took off about 3lbs of surface rust off the frame. The firewall had like 3 layers of paint. It was Black on top, whatever kinda paint it was it was thick, then Chevy orange, then red. I got the steering column and everyting thing else taken out so tomorrow I can hopefully start making filler plates for the holes. Here are a few pics of what I got done. Crap I hope I can remember how everything goes together. lol

Re: 1SIK69 build....

The rear bag mount like that will cause your bar to flex and roll over. If you do them like that, they need to be centered over the bar.

I know, I am gonna change it later. I have to get some more cash to finish a few things. I am gonna roll with it for now.

Tonight I got a few things done. Mounted the tanks and compressors. The fitting and compressors are just mocked in until after I paint the frame. I am still waiting on my tabs to mount the wish bone. We change the crossmember by the cab with the bend tubing. Tomorrow I am gonna finish working on the firewall so I can get the motor put back in and running. Still got a crap load of stuff to do.

Re: 1SIK69 build....

Yep its definately going to destroy your bag twist your bars and hurt the bushings prematurely if you rock the lower bag brackets like that. I would also put a gusset along your lower bar since its round tubing. Also TEX MEX will be a show no to miss this year!

Got the firewall bondo'ed and hopefully should have it smoother totally tonight. Will post some pics when I am done with it. Then it is off to planting the motor and tranny.

Thanks bro. Well, I better have it done for my clubs show in 2 1/2 weeks. I should. I am just about done with the firewall. Then I am gonna drop in the motor. Then it is just finalizing a few things to get it on the road. I will probably roll it without the bed to it though.

Got the firewall somewhat done. Still needs to be blocked real good before it gets paint. Time to start assembling the motor. Got the intake on and water pump painted. Gonna finish it up tomorrow.
