Re: 53 Subframe swap CUMMINS

Well I see for one a custom fabbed header to turbo to start with, it is a 12 valve so not much as far as eletronics. The motor will weigh arounf 1000 so about 300 kbs more than a big block.. Some good fron springs a decent size tire and wheel as he has should do the trick. Thing is how often would you have to check the wheel bearings for this..

The intercooler and batterys are another deal all together... I did not notice the batterys so maybe they are located in the bed... That is a very tight fit and would hate to have to even think about replacing the seal between the cc and ps.... OUCH... I wish he would let us see it rll down the road...

Re: 53 Subframe swap CUMMINS

If you want a Cummings in an early Chevy pickup
Why not just put the chevy sheet metal on a
dodge frame ?
I think the hoods were a little longer on the advance design
Chevy trucks in much larger sizes ?
I saw a 58 Chevy pickup on an eightys Dodge 4x4
frame that was really nice

Re: 53 Subframe swap CUMMINS

If it were mine I would 6bt it but that is me. I would reinforce the frame and use a newer 1/2 ton truck suspension. I know the dodges can hold it, there are over 15-25 of them running around the US and some of those are getting beaten hard! If you are worried about the length, set back the firewall. If I can get one into a 68 Vette, you can get one in your truck. LOL

Re: 53 Subframe swap CUMMINS

Sorry it took me so long to get some pics up. Here are some of it last year. It isn't running yet but should be soon. The pictures that are the second and third row from the bottom are it's current status. I decided to install a full roll cage for what I am wanting to do.
