Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

One thing to remember if you are mounting the filler neck at the rear of the bed is that it needs to still be above the top of the tank far enough so that fuel doesn't run out if you have a full tank and park on an incline I remember certain models of cars with the filler in the middle of the rear being famous for that in the 60's or early 70's. You could always tell when they had a full tank because gas would run out when they parked facing up hill a bit.

I've got the filer in the bed in the 48 and it is a pain at times with every issue others mentioned previously. I'm not sure what I will do this time around but it won't be in the floor of the bed again.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

The main reason I'm going thru the rear sill for the filler instead of trying to get the filler cap below the sill is so I have a decent angle for the fuel to flow into the tank.

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

Here's what I did for my 3200 89" long bed:
The tank is from Tanks, Inc.

http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...prod/prd73.htm

It's perfect for those that don't want to fill from the bed.

What I did for my fill was to cut out the original flange in the cab and found a place on the rear fender with a similar curve and welded the flange in there.

I also tucked this tank in up as high as I could for clearance:

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

Adding mine since someone may reference this thread in the future. Fleetside bed so the side spear keeps it pretty low. I looked at in bed solutions but figured the odds were pretty good I might have the truck full (it will be used) when I wanted to fill up. Door is out of a mid 90's caravan, I made a template of the bed curve and took it to junk yard. I wanted a round door so I did not have to worry about getting it square! Has inside cable latch which I kept. I also grabbed the file tube, but did not use it, I modified the stock one and used a tailpipe adaptor to get from 2" caravan to 1.5" tank. It is pretty flat but fuel fill in on the top of the tank so after a few miles will settle down.
