Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
thanks for the replies, fellas. it will be HER truck. I just get to do all the work. this is her favorite year of truck.
if i can find the right offset wheels i will do it that way. so i don't have to narrow the rearend. Griffin- i am not partial to the hood. we will see what the wife says. myself i like a cowl hood, but it wont be my choice. Will keep you in mind. you dont live to far from us. we live north of springfield in bolivar missouri. ------------ will keep you guys updated what the out come is. found on craigslist this guys post for the truck. he is wanting $1900 for it. i dont think he could get that for it, but who knows. plus our truck has a motor and tranny. ------------ any of you guys know where the best place is to get a wiper motor, and wiper arms, that move the wipers. dont know exactly what you call them. or if any of you guys have a motor and arms. ----------- they have removed the tank from the front. hoping they did a good job on the gas fill hole. will be building a aluminum fuel cell to put inbetween the frame in the rear. also looks like they have put a heater delete plate on firewall. Did any of you notice that?

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
sorry i havent updated this post. after posting and listening to your guys comments i was ready to trade. well got a little busy and it kind of went on the back burner.
not able to sell the 86, and the guy got back with me about trading. went and looked at the truck last night. truck is pretty solid. needs new cab supports, driver side rocker has dent in it, believe i will be able to pull it out, tubs in bed need to be finished. the hood has some minor work that needs to be worked on. right in front on the seam. other than that it is good shape. will have to pull the bondo out of the door handles to put on the new door handles. needs wiper assembly, bondo out of antenna hole. the guy had removed the gas tank from cab and put it in bed. lagged screwed to the tail gate. no biggy thou. can fill in the holes. does have leafs under it. said that they only come out with a few like that. i dont know. has 5 lug front and rear. disks on front. everything else seems to be solid. i told the guy i would trade. i believe i am getting the better deal out of the trade, even though my truck has motor and tranny. he is coming to look at my truck today. will update post later tonight and let you know. then tell you my plans with truck if traded.

not a ford 9 inch. it has a 12 bolt posi w/ 3.08 gear. fords come with a 5x4.5 or 5x5. the rear wheels will probably be up for sale, possible the hood. going to put corvette wheels on it. 19's on rear - 18's on front.

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
thanks eddie.
i feel kinda bad. feel like i stole it from him. i paid $900 for the truck. he had been asking $1600 for his. i knew he would never sell it for that. the only thing is mine has a motor and tranny. body is almost perfect on the 68. will need cab supports, front and rear. and some other minor things, pertaining to body. i think i will be pleased.

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
the 66 swb, that is in my sig is gone. i sold it before i finished it. have had 2 other 64-66 swb's that i started and sold before finishing.
i don't think i will be able to do it with this truck. it is my wifes favorite year and body style of truck. she doesn't know what i have plans for it though. its going to be sitting on corvette wheels and have a 2 link suspension under it. 19's rear, 18's front. 2 link you say. yes. i am going to put a 2 link under it. will have conventional springs offset of the rearend housing on the back, 2 bars heading forward, panhard bar, shocks in front of rearend, and solid bar heading forward to chassis. i guess you might call this a 3 link. i drive an asphalt modified and this is the setup we use on it. if it will get traction going 80mph coming out of a corner, i know it will just driving on the street. will start a build thread when i get started.

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
yeah, i know. but you got to remember. it is for my wife. i dont need to many parts for it. i know the salvage yard about 30 miles from me has a few 67-72 body style trucks there i can get parts off of.

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
Good trade.
You can get pretty nice clean/original swb square bodies around here for 2-4K. They're not super easy to find, but they're around. A 67-72 in the same shape goes for a good bit more.

Re: Is this a fair TRADE - w/PICS
Glad you got it man, have fun! I noticed it looked like it had tilt steering too
When I first looked at this, I was thinking it wouldn't be worth doing, since yours was a running truck. But, there has been tons done to the 68. Don't feel back about trading, the guy wanted a running truck instead of a non running truck...IMO everyone came out good |
