Re: What engine is this?
350's had the dipstick on the drivers up until the 80's, not sure what year they went to the passenger side. 86 rings a bell for some reason.

Re: What engine is this?
from the casting symbol on the front of the heads, i believe that it is a 283, i found one with that same symbol, take a pic of the front of the heads, is the symbol like a square with a triangle on the top?

Re: What engine is this?
I think a good way to rule out if ya have a 283 or early 327, is to see if there is a road draft PCV. It is located on the block right next to the distributor.
I may be wrong on this, and others can verify. But I think "all" 283's and early 327 small journal blocks had a road draft PCV? The other arrow points to the rear block numbers others were trying for you to get.

Re: What engine is this?
That intake number said its for a early 70's corvette. Double hump heads didnt have holes in them, and the heads in the pic look like double hump.

Re: What engine is this?
Didn't heads w/ bolt holes in the front start in '70?
Sorry if this isn't a popular $10 suggestion, but buy 2 cans of engine degreaser, spray one on the warm engine, then after waiting half an hour, and blast it off at the car wash. Repeat after letting it sit to cool, then warm up a bit. No car wash? Connect the hose to your water heater. Good for both the engine and sediment in the WH. Re: What engine is this?
Yes-There is a symbol like a little house on left front of the engine. The previous owner said it was a 283 but I wanted to prove it. The Quadrajet 4mV seemed to fit with a larger engine. I'll try to degrease some more tomorrow.
