Re: Firebird bezels

In 68 and 69, in pick up trucks, the markers were reflectors as base equipment, and lights were an added cost option. If you had a cab/chassis or cowl chassis, then the marker lights were required (per federal DOT regulations), and were added to the cost... basicly a required added cost option. I have GMC corperate notes to the dealer here in my reference material that says this is true.

A set powder coated black or another color would be sweet.

Re: Firebird bezels

You guys are more than welcome to have him ship them straight to me. It will take me about 2 days to coat them max. I can then ship them to you.

I have guys on here buy stuff on ebay and have it shipped to me for coating. When I am done, I ship it to them. Saves time and shipping that way.

Re: Firebird bezels

Sorry to keep everyone hanging, I'm just trying to finalize the mfg. process to make sure everyone gets products that fit!

I also wanted to clear up a few misconceptions, I don't want anyone to be misled. These bezels are made from mild steel, the only parts that are stainless are the nuts and lockwashers. The threaded studs that are welded to the bezels are phosphate coated to prevent rusting. So after you paint the front and backside of the bezels, you shouldn't have any rust issues.

These bezels fit over 1970-1981 Firebird marker lights with some modification. I believe Mocwon was the first board member to attempt this. A FAQ has been posted by another board member to walk you through this mod. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=262363&page=1

You can purchase these marker lenses through Year One or Paddock. I will be selling these bezels for $64.00 per set, this includes two right handed and two left handed bezels, no marker lenses are included in this price.

Maybe a little feedback regarding the powdercoated idea. I know that powdercoating is quite a bit thicker than painting and my tolerances would need to be adjusted for powdercoating. The area I am worried about would be the two windows where the Firebird marker protrudes through the bezel.

I anticipate releasing these for purchase by May 1st. Thanks for all your interest and advice, especially from Longhorn, I forgot I had to be more than just a supporter to sell. I'll be in touch.

Re: Firebird bezels

Will these need a modification or are they modded to fit better and we will need to mod our truck a little on our end...?

Re: Firebird bezels

The only mods needed will be to your truck. This will require removing the triangular shaped areas of your fenders where the stock bezels screw to. You will need a dremel or other small cutoff wheel to carefully remove this area as shown in the first pic. When you finish, the openings where the bezels will sit will be rectangular as shown in the second pic.

Re: Firebird bezels

Installed a set on my son's truck last night, it looks like we're almost there. Don't mind the paint, it was just some Dupli-color I found at O'reilly's.

Re: Firebird bezels

Why don't you ship me a couple of them, I will powdercoat and return to you. That would give you an idea of whether the coating is feasible without making lense fitment an issue.

I could just throw them in with a batch of parts I was doing that day.

If it worked out, we might get some kind of a deal going. If not, no harm done.

Re: Firebird bezels

Just thinking out loud here - is there any way that a set could be made that you wouldn't have to cut off the tabs inside the bedside/fender - that way if you want to go back to stock - you can?
