Re: Progress on my fight against rust
Okay, a little update, got the driver's rear cab support in, so the underside is done. I've got some buddies coming over after work tomorrow to help turn the cab right side up. The outer rocker is prefitted on the passenger side, so I just need to hang the door and double check fitment, and burn it in, then the passenger side is done.
We've had a little change here at the Powell house. The wife has been hinting towards a new vehicle (and for good reason!) she's been driving a '90 Corsica. That was our newest vehicle! So for Christmas we got her a '05 dark blue Trailblazer (no pic, she's at work). Well, she wanted the new rig in the garage so her truck got put in our shed for the rest of the winter, I know what you're thinking, it's a BIG shed. We'll dig it out this summer. Look how lonely my truck looks without it's buddy next to it. The good news is I got the hand-me-down Corsica, so I have something to drive when the snow flies, or whenever the weather is questionable. Keeps the magchloride off the truck. Hopefully the next update will be soon....................

Re: Progress on my fight against rust
You gonna tip it on it's back again after the passenger side is fitted so you can do the driver side or are you gonna tackle that side upright? I think I'm gonna get both sides of mine tacked up while it's on it's back, put it on the frame, fit the doors and fenders then if everything lines up I'll finish the welds and do the outer rockers and cab corners while it's upright.

I get teased for that quite a bit.

It's very stable, it has a lot of bracing on it. I also made sure I sprung for some decent casters.

Chris, man what are you talking about? You could give most of us lessons. I never thought about storing my truck in a readybuilt wood floored building. Must be braced very well.

And yes, the shed is very sturdy, I love the thing, it keeps all the yard equipment and misc. stuff from taking up valueable space in the garage.

Re: Progress on my fight against rust
**UPDATE**
Well, after just over a year the passenger side is done, I got the rocker welded in today and tied up some loose ends on the cab corner, plus the underside is done, so I'm over half way there! Just two pics this time- Just in case anyone is wondering why this is taking so long, aside from life getting in the way sometimes, I'm an auto mechanic, so sometimes my hobby isn't as fun as it is for others. It can be difficult to get motivated to get into the garage sometimes.

Re: Progress on my fight against rust
Lookin' good Chris! From the lighting of that photo, it looks like you guy's enjoyed some sun today. Unfortunately it was overcast and wet once again. We're paying for the weather we enjoyed last week/weekend.

Re: Progress on my fight against rust
It was almost too nice to be in the garage today, but it was nice being able to work with the door up, first time in a long time.

Re: Progress on my fight against rust
Looks great, I just did the same as you have finished and I am glad to be done with mine. Next is I have to do this again on my other truck very soon I am so not looking to forward to it but I feel better when I have accomplished something like this in the end. Its alot of work to dig out all that rust and repair the pieces, what clean progress you have going on.
again great work. |

Re: Progress on my fight against rust
Okay, one update pic for the weekend, I got the A-pillar and kick panel cut out, along with the front half of the outer floor section, and then got the new floor section and the kick panel fit and tacked in place. That's enough grinding dust for today!
Next time I'll get the lower A-pillar and the last small floor patch at the front fit, then it's off to the rear outer floor section.
