Re: rolldown back glass

We sell a power window slider for the 1950's to 1972's and up chevy trucks. it slides horizontally but it might give you some ideas. We also sell all kinds of small oem and aftermarket hinges, cams, channels etc for sliding windows and sunroofs. You can use many of these to make your own window

That truck was called "Habanero" . Here is an article from Custom Classic Trucks LINK It was brought to Stoked Out Specialties as an unfinished project, but the back glass was already done.

Re: rolldown back glass

Subscribing . . .

I've been looking for station wagon rear glasses out at my local pull-a-part for a while now. Happened onto an early '80's Caprice wagon a couple of weeks ago and looked at it. The regulator mechanism was nothing more than a heavy duty scissor with a big motor driving it. It also had a guide rod close to both ends to keep the glass from rocking back and forth during it's travel. Pretty simple mechanically. Hard part would be the channel, I think.

Quote:
....looks like the 5 deg or so of slope the back of the cab has is not going to let the window just slide straight down...
Ah. That explains why there's a small, bodyworked "shelf" at the bottom of the glass on the Habanero truck. Somebody hurry up and execute this so the rest of us will have a pattern . . .

I've never seen it on a toyota, but have seen them on the nissan titans. The only thing is the price would be high on new parts and junk yard parts are nonexistant, might be good just to look at to get some ideas though. I have also seen some 73-82 gm trucks with this, I was told it was a factory option but I don't know for sure. Seems like there are plenty of the suburbans and blazers around for parts....hell I have a 75 blazer sitting by my truck that has the manual window in back.

Re: rolldown back glass

I could probably find the parts out of a new Toyota factory buy back fairly cheap. I know a few people who handle crushing duties for factory buy backs..

It was aftermarket. Many times these are "dealer installed" and people think the are factory. GM never offered a rear roll down on the 73-87's.

Looks like he hasn't been on the board since 08-01-2009, so unless I miss my guess there won't be any updates any time soon...

Re: rolldown back glass

Jmuck mentioned that he did a mod like this on his truck in the link below, maybe hit him up if anyone wants more info. There is a picture at the bottom of page one, and he says he did the mod at the start of page 2.
