Re: My Truck

Great looking truck, can't do a resto in Texas and not reuse the step bumper with the dealer name!

Smile My Truck

Thanks to everyone for all the good comments about my truck. I will answer some of the questions asked about it.
Jbristo67 - I love the wood bed also, it was alot of work and the first one I have done, but now I have the system down.
Ramey - I thought about changing the bumper but decided to have it powdercoated and reinstall it as it has alot of memories.
B52fizzle - The bumper is stamped with the dealers name and city & state, originally silver with the stampings painted red. I like the late truck steering wheel.
TxFirefighter - You are correct! I am in the process of installing factory air and cut holes to put the vents in during the restoration and paint process.
68Stepbed - You are also correct, my painter mistakenly painted the grill area of the fenders green instead of white. He is going to redo them.
Oarngesi - Yes I remember when he bought it, I was 19 years old. I have the original sales invoice and GMAC finance agreement. He traded in a 56 3200, long bed stepside with a 235 and 3 on the tree, the truck I learned to drive in.
Clos69 - Yes, the bumper has the dealership and my hometown stamped in it.
Monte0185 - If you are serious about finding a bumper like mine, I am sure I can find one for you, although it will most likely be a Texas one. Let me know.
72BlckButy - The truck came with a 307 Powerglide, 3.73 diff. I installed PS and PB for my Dad and he had under dash air installed long ago. In 1979 I put a 350 in it, which is still in it. I am in the process of installing a TH700r4 right now, and then will put in a 454 with all original bracketry, manifolds, Air Pump, etc., along with Factory Air. I have already installed original 72 spindles and disc brakes. I have a set of Buddy Buckets waiting also. I am converting it to a CST as close as I can. I did upgrade the side markers to later lighted type and upgraded the tailgate trim. I installed an under bed fuel tank, but left the hole in the cab with a spout for an original look.

Re: My Truck

Did you use a wood bed kit or do it yourself? I need to do mine. Heard it is a pain in the rear to do one yourself, but the kits just seem way expensive.

advice or tips?

Thanks.

PS...Love the truck. 68 is my fav year, hence the same as mine too.

Re: My Truck

I bought the bed kit and finished it myself. To install the wood, the bed must be off the truck and standing on its front end as the wood goes in first, then the reinforcements that sit on the frame of the truck. It is not too hard with two people.

Re: My Truck

Would you mind posting some more pictures of your truck? Not really asking for anything specific but just want to see some more of it.

Well... maybe a shot or two of the interior.
