Re: my gmc 2500
ya we have a 496bbc in it now...it would be great minus the fact that it gets like4-5 miles per gallon. but hes building a mildly stock 396bbc for it.
I've thought about it but i love the reliability of the Detroit. I've beat the snot outta these lockers and haven't broke one yet. the only down side is turning. with it lock, turnings is a bit rough at times. but that's it. and i think detroits are way cheaper than arb's. |

Re: my gmc 2500
nice but i think detroits are around 400-500 and the arbs are 5-600, but the arbs are just as good from my understanding but you can press the button and you can turn i think i'm oing to get a detroit for my other truck unless i weld the spiders.

Re: my gmc 2500
500-600? all the ones ive seen are more like 600-700?
being able to turn is a plus but i would still go with a detroit. |

having an arb would be cool, but at that price and this current economy...ill still go with a detroit.

Re: my gmc 2500
I was working most the day on this i cleaned up and painted the rear end i still have to do the brakes and weld the perchs, i was media blasting everything i could and painting it too, i feel like i could have done more but i was media blasting with low pressure because i used it for a while then the compressor was on for a while and the stuff wasn't coming off. But i waited a little and the compressor stoped then i started blasting again it worked fine. Pic tomarrow.

Re: my gmc 2500
i was working on my truck and got everything done thinking i have to just replace a wheel cylinder then i was pulling drum and saw it was packed with mud and their was no pad on one side and the other was falling off, so i pulled the other side and found nothing wrong but my uncle said go order drums and shoes. My grandma ordered them and we get them they were 5 lug and replacements for 15-3500 c/k s then we talked got the right stuff and then got the bill 200+. was puting them on and ran out of time but so i still need to put on the drivers side then i can go wheeling satuday. When i went to put the leafs back on i thought i should run no overloads and i did and in the air they sit about 4-5 ins lower than with the overs and they will flex a few more in's up, so i got some used shocks from the back they fit well and going to test the flex tomarrow.

Re: my gmc 2500
cool yeah flipping the overload or removing it will always gain you flex but if ur going to use it as a tow ri i would throw em back in.
As for the arb thing I would only wnat one in the front. No need for a selectable locker in the rear... I am going to run a loc rite in the front of mine. Man ur getting alot done on this trucki feel like a slacker now

Re: my gmc 2500
Yea a selectable locker up front is what i want and someone i know is going to dump over 2000 for arbs and doesn't understand or doesn't want to understand he can have a detriot in the rear and still be highway friendly. But I'm keeping the overs and putting them back on when my other truck is done not to mess up my wheeling till then.

Re: my gmc 2500
I wheeled all day, caught some air in the mud bog, came down and didn't move had to be pulled. everyone was does it have a big block, no. what did you do to it, nothing, its really healthy must of done the cam, intake and heads, nope. It does sound good but in the cab when you idling it has a leak at the heads because no gaskets or bolts in the center. But i had a good time flexed it a lot i have one picture that shows the front then rear axle in the same pic. I had it flexed more but my dad didn't get the shots or it didn't save them. I lost the mirror to the side of the trail it took some paint but no real dents, bent the front bumper, dented the chrome on the back of the cab.
After the bog didn't stay running that well because the points had water in them but i took some trails and then we were going to run one last trail the sand rail messed up the tranny so it was us and a 4runnner going up my front end wasn't orking so we made it up so far and hearing a faint popping so we thought check the tranny fuild and we put a quart in it check the front diff opened a brand new bottle of 80-90wt went to pour it in and it poured out, so we thought ut it in 4hi so thought it was in 4 high and then it happened. IT was suck in n in the t-case, the truck died,, we put 2 pieces of wood under the pasager tires i was letting it rol on to them it went over cught speeed i couldn't turn it then about a foot from the edge finally turned it enough and it turned sharp into the wall of the hill and stoped. LUcky im still here the drop was at least a 2000 feet to the bottom of the valley. I will put pics tomarrow.

Re: my gmc 2500
yup thats what i have in it and they're cheap and i don't plan on wheeling it much so it shoul work for towing a trailer up there to the day use area. even in the mud.

Re: my gmc 2500
cool man. Wheel it if it breaks upgrade it. Somany people get into having this and that but depending on what you do and how you do it the smaller stuff can work. Cool to see your truck out getting used!

Re: my gmc 2500
I know people who use the same front end or the 1/2ts and they do as much as they can and they seem to have no major problems so i will do the same and upgrade if i break the same thing twice. Smaller is cheaper.

Re: my gmc 2500
I think i should update this, we are plannin g a trip to pismo, for those who don't know sand dunes next to a beach on the 23-25. We are not planning it just shoing up for a friends birthday or something like that, With my truck. So we have to fix the brake isue, think we need to bleed the brakes. If not it will get fixed somehow, we will check everything.
