Re: Snap-On tools...Do you drink the Kool Aid too ?

I had to google it, but once it popped up I remembered it from a show about cults on the History Channel

Yes, I am a tool addict as well.

Re: Snap-On tools...Do you drink the Kool Aid too ?

I've always been a home wrencher for the most part. So my tool box is mostly Craftsman, some of those Craftsman tools are older than I am. Along with those, I have a mix of Snap-on, Cornwall, Matco, and chinese garbage.

Haven't had a moment yet, where I said to myself that I shoulda used a Snap-on socket or wrench.

Not bashin, but I guess I kept walkin to the beer booth rather than the Kool aid booth

Re: Snap-On tools...Do you drink the Kool Aid too ?

I drank a pitcher of Snap-on Kool-Aid, a small bottle of Mac Kool-Aid, and just a small cup of Matco Kool-Aid. Although that was 20 years ago, the taste has never left my mouth.

Here's a pretty good definition for the expression "drinking the Kool-Aid."

"To participate blindly and eagerly in something considered inferior or harmful."
It's used to describe behaviors which are wildly to the left, right, up, down, or whatever a person may otherwise consider mainstream.

Hey, I love the Snap-On Kool-Aid. When I can beat on chrome sockets with an impact for years without ever suffering a chrome splinter, or hook two wrenches together and stand on them without bending, I'm a true believer. Plus they just fit my hands right. And they look good too.

Re: Snap-On tools...Do you drink the Kool Aid too ?

Snap-On Kool Aid is a health drink. It gives you lots of energy. It causes you to stay slim and buff. If you are going bald it regrows your hair. I've even heard some guys say it increased size in other places.

Hell, I was 5 foot 1 and 140 pounds when I bought my first Snap-On tool and now, I am 6 foot 4 and 240 pounds. It worked for me.

Your tool collection sounds alot like mine.Mostly Craftsman, with a little bit of everything else.

I've broken many tools and have never said Damn if it was a snap on it wouldn't have broke.

I know there are a lot of Craftsman haters on this site, but you have to like being able to go to any Sears store and buying what you need

I just don`t buy Snap Off tools (Taiwan) and can`t recall breaking anything I wasn`t asking too much from and knew it.

Snap-On has good stuff, but WAAYYYY overpriced IMO. I'd rather go to Canadian Tire and get Mastercraft or Craftsman tools, pay 1/3rd of the price, and get a lifetime warranty. Dad had a 30 year old ratchet die the other day, took it in, and they replaced it free of charge.

I agree with what you said here. BUT, on the few tools that i use a TON of, nothing fits in the hand and feels as good as a snap on wrench. Bottom line..

High priced yes. Higher than all the other brands, yes. Overpriced, no. Over the course of my career, they have been a bargain. You buy the best once and go on with other things in life. Quality is always a good value regardless of the price.

Re: Snap-On tools...Do you drink the Kool Aid too ?

It really boils down to what you need? Snap On tools are probably overkill for most weekenders but not for guys that make their living with tools. You can break any tool, but how difficult is it to get it replaced? I worked at a Deere dealership in Western KS for years and made my living with my Snap on tools. Each time something broke, the tool man came to me within a week and I swapped it out, no questions.
Cheers to Snap On, one of our last great American tool companies.

My 1/2 inch stuff is harbor freight. 25 bucks for a full 1/2 impact set... Something i might use once a year.. Im not spending 60 dollars PER piece with snap on for that....

Re: Snap-On tools...Do you drink the Kool Aid too ?

Snap-On tool`s pricing may have been a tad lower if the company wasn`t established on the tools being brought door to door or the priveledge of paying installments while the tool is in your possesion. Those are a couple services no one does for free, think Sear Card interest. It`s a company based on providing a service to the industry. These days anyone can access them on the internet.Although no benefit of the services I mentioned for online orders, consider cost based on reputation at this point. And,if they discounted online orders they`d be screwing their route salesmen.
