Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
Get the Lokar adjustable column shifter kit and run your 3" pipes over the tranny mount. Cut 4.5" holes in your TA xmember and weld in reinforcing rings or just but the ECE version. Then swap your stock panhard bar out for the ECE super-trac bar that mounts to the PS U-Bolt. You should be able to tuck the pipes above the frame the whole way.

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
I have only driven it down the driveway with the new linkage. I hear it transfers more movement from the tranny to the shift arm, but I don't hang on to the shift arm while driving so we'll see if it's really an issue for me.

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2 subwoofer baxes
Tried my first time with fiberglass, oh what fun........... I want subwoofers for the Burb, but don't want the big box in the back, and since nothing will fit under the Escalade seats here's what I did.....
3/8 high density foam so that the vibration doesn't transferr to the quarter panel.

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
adapt the drivers side for the AC hoses, respostion the AC hoses.
I didn't use any body filler as the boxes will be behind the panels. Fiberglass difficulties..... how do you bend the fiberglass matting (90*)so that air pockets don't form?

Good idea with the dynamat and foam. I have something similar in mind. Did you get to hear them yet?

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
it'll be a while before it's done. I had these 8" subs under my Sierra seats. I like the punch.

I just read through both (part 1 and 2) and I really like what you're doing!
Makes me want a burb more and more. |

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
IAFF2407
Really nice build. I noticed you changed out your grill for a 68. I see the front of your fenders are now black. Did your fenders have the correct front shape or are the black areas pieces you put in? I have a 68 burb that is really rusted out - been through 3 generations of my family and just picked up a 72 burb at an estate sale last week I couldnt turn down. 29000 original miles, original paint, interior. Had not been moved or started since 1988. Runs good - but has a tank full of 1988 fuel. needs fuel and brake lines and the interior is really musty but the whole thing should clean up nicely. I know I should leave it original but would really like to swap in my 68 grille/hood. But I am under the impression the front of the fenders are different contour. Thanks Bill |

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
The clip will fit but you will need to put your 68 core support on the 72
as well. Good luck with your swap

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
wabash15,
I painted the front of the fenders so I couldn't see the Ochre paint. Hopefully in March the paint will be complete. GMC fenders from '67 - '72 are the same as '67 -'68 chevy fenders except that '67 fenders don't have the side marker lights (correct me if I'm wrong) Al

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
Looking sweet man!! I have my 71 with a 68 nose on it, going 4X with mine, but still want to do the 3 rows from a late model burb or tahoe, I have a front set and 3rd row, just need the second row. Looks great, and I'll bet the comander system helps it purr like a kitten and run like a tiger!!

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
Al, I just noticed this thread and always like to see what you're working on. As much as I prefer the Chevy grills, I wish you had kept it all original GMC, but you're payin' for it and enjoyin' it and it's still a really sweet Suburban. I especially like the pin-up art Ellen did!! Wow, that's really freakin' cool!!

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
Hey Brad good to hear from you. Hope things are going okay for you over there. This weekend is our (Canada) thanksgiving weekend. so... I'm giving a gratefull thx to our guys and you guys serving over there. take care.
I already have a '72 GMC Sierra, and I've always wanted a '67 or '68 chev truck, so I changed the clip, cheaper than buying a 3rd truck LOL. Al

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
Wabash15.....that 72 is too clean to mess with. all she needs is those couple little fix's and she's back on the road. unlike many, i'm partial to the 71/72 front end over the others, probably because that's what i grew up seeing. i think the 69/70 with the bow tie above the grille is the ugly duckling in the bunch. my only suggestion is that you ditch those gawd-awful running boards. those ARE an eye sore and spoil the lines of that lovely old girl.
i'd like to see a suburban or blazer version of Stacy David's "Copperhead." i do like the sportiness of the slant nose on the 67/68 and no side markers of the 67 but i would not do an identity swap to a truck and change the era/styling cues. i like my 72 to be recognized correctly. oh....and i do like the chrome lower trim on the the 67/68 like on the 68 burb above. everyone has their own sense of aesthetics Last edited by capev86; 02-16-2011 at 04:20 AM. |

Re: seattle overhauling PART 2
wow, where has my life gone. Can't believe how long its taking me. two of my kids getting married back to back years put everything on hold. getting back on these posts to motivate me again. Everything is done, except completing the vintage air and the wiring. I HATE WIRING, not relaxing at all for me.
