Re: i gotta get stress out..

for anyone who wants to go by the letter of the law, double check on the whole cut out idea... esp remote control ones.
Not legal in many states. They were outlawed for smog reasons, not that there's polution control items on our exhaust, but it was just genericly outlawed.
Plus, quite a few ststes will outlaw an item that is designed to break the law.

Re: i gotta get stress out..

Well, I would see this as an opportunity to find out if these people in your neighborhood mean what they say. Find out what your rights are. What kind of restrictions does your local municipality place on your freedom. Then exploit them.

I love the sound of open headers and have tinkered with them for the last 25 years in my parents driveway, my grandparents driveway and now in my driveway.

Keep it in the daylight and you should be fine. That is being respectful.

We all love the sound of uncorked headers. Just try to be conscientious of those who don't.

When my oldest son was younger...late teens...he had one of those crazy loud stereos in his car. He would crank that thing up and Id have to get on him to turn it down. His response was if the neighbors didnt like it too bad...they can close their doors. Course even if you did the bass would still be thumping through their walls.

He's 28 now, nice wife, four year old daughter and recently moved into their first new home. We were all sitting in the front yard and the neighbor kid had his stereo cranked up very loud. My son was saying...that damn kid drives me nuts cranking his stereo up like that. You can hear it all over the whole neighborhood. I just started cracking up...what goes around eventually comes around.
CG, Great Story! My son is 24 and away at college but I remember the days when he was working on his truck and cranking the music. I always told him to keep the noise down. He's getting married next year and one day he'll have kids. I'm curious to see how he'll react to the neighbor kid(s) working on their rides outside.

Its nice to not live in town. The last time I fired up my 'Cuda with open headers, one of my neighbors came over and complimented me on how good it sounded, lol.

cutouts are illegal in texas....but i have them anyway

Re: i gotta get stress out..

i ran my truck with open headers in my driveway and my next door neighrobs came over and thought it was cool. then about 5 minits laterafter i was revving it and showing off a little a cop pulled in my driveway. they got a call i was reclessly driving in a neaghborhood.. my truck never left my driveway... found out the nosy old lady called the cops on me. the cop just told me to try to keep it down and not to do it after 11 and he left. theres nothing they can do unless your driving it on the road or if its after 11 at night. is it respectful? no. but you have rights too, right?

Re: i gotta get stress out..

my jimmy has flowmaster super 40's and full length exhaust. i was driving this summer at around 9 pm when a cop followed me to my house. he then cussed me, threatened me, and gave me a ticket cause he HEARD me speeding and that my exhaust was "deafening". tickets for exhaust are the biggest loads of crap i have ever heard of in my opinion!

Re: i gotta get stress out..

Salina is a tough town to understand. KHP training center and still the town is full of nuts. One statement that always spells it out Don't poop where you live---keep the noise down close to home and life is easy. Putting headers on is a good thing--putting them on when the average family is sitting down to eat dinner and watch
TV is probably bad. Saturday afternoon while the world is beating themselves to death is the best time.

My Sister-N-Law and her sons live in the Salina area.

No matter what you do you will always have one of "those" neighbors. Like in any job, there is always one A-hole in the group....
Just be as courteous and respectful as you can and go about your way.

Re: i gotta get stress out..

Reminds me the time I got the cops called on me, way out in the country. When I was first getting my new engine in, i just had open headers, didn't have the tranny in yet. It ran for a few mins got a few revs in, cops show up and say "we got a report someone has been racing an old truck up and down the street with no mufflers" I point to the transmission in the corner and say " take a look, transmission is there not in the truck, and I've been racing up and down the street?"
look on the Officer's face was priceless haha

I think he means that you can do whatever is in your rights as a citizen of this country, as long as what you are doing do not impede on his rights. And agreed.

Re: i gotta get stress out..

that is exactly what I ment.
And reving an uncorked engine just to make noise, or to intentionally tick off the neighbors... that's what i ment with the other part of my comment.

You have the right to pee where ever you want... I have the right to not have to see that.

I think it was the A-hole part that sounded a little abrasive. You're not talking to your neighbors here.
