Re: trouble with eng starting need help

Does it turn over at all when it's hot? Or is it just dead until it cools down? My best guess, without any electrical testing is a bad starter solenoid. Very interested in what you find.

Re: trouble with eng starting need help

What turns fast the starter or the engine? If just the starter pinion is spinning but not engaging the felxplate/flywheel, then replace the starter. If the engine turns fast, then the starter and solenoid are fine. Must be ignition related or fuel. Is the coil ok? Test it. Same for the ignition module. Heat may make these items fail to work properly. What about your plug wires? Are they ok? Did you leave the old oem ballast resistor in the power wire to the HEI? HEI needs a full 12 volts, unlike points that want to see less volts. Electrical components hate heat. What about vapor lock? Are your fuel lines routed away from sources of heat?
