Tx Firefighter,
That is a great looking old truck. What do you have in it for running gear? Have you done any upgrades to it or is it stock? My Granddad had one just like it except his was gold and white and after he died one of my Cousins bought it because he was geograchically closer to where the truck was than I was and he ended up wrapping that truck around a telephone pole. He made it through the Accident ok mostly because he was Drunk as a skunk but the truck didn't. I wish I could have got that truck because it would probably be setting out in my shop fully restored not that it needed much in terms of restoration. Anyway its great to see these great looking old trucks out on the road.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide

At present the truck and all running gear is stock .. 6cyl , 4spd granny low . drum brakes .. Been enjoying it as it , has little things like hose warmer on lower radiator hose ( see in picture ) , old GM mirrior on visor , decals , and the tiki on the mirrior ... the truck belongs to me (62 longbed ) ..Sorry for the misunderstanding .. I was responding to a question about color to Tx Firefighter .. I'm thinking about doing the front suspension change and maybe the S10 5spd trans swap this winter ..

62 Longbed,
Dont you love how simple these old trucks are. That strait six is a jem and the 5 speed you put behind it will make all the difference in the world driving it down the freeway. I am actually putting a 305 V8 in my stepsons 63 Shortwide and am thinking about putting a 5speed in to replace the original Granny 4 Speed so I might be asking you some questions about your replacement your doing. That is a great truck.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide

Got the Interior painted today and did it turn out great. I realy like the color but the pictures makes it look more orange than it realy is. In fact its kind of a blue red rather than an orange red. Anyway its painted on the inside now its time to takle the outside. Here are some pics of it.

JRBECK64,
WOW LOOKING NICE !!!! The color is looking great .. Goodbye Green
Looking forward to seeing the finished product .. Looked like a nice truck to start with ... Sounds like the 305 and 5 spd would be a nice combo .. I know I'm tired of being all out by about 50 mph .. I gonna put on a little bigger tire , then move on to the trans ..I haven't had any of my projects driveable for so long !! I'm trying to get the most out of it ...

62 Longbed,
50 is a little slow for the freeways around here, good thing that is such a big truck cause you might get run over going that slow here in Portland. I am getting ready to build a 67 Short Wide and I am thinking about putting a newer 5.3 Liter backed by a 4L60 Auto Overdrive. I would rather make it a 5 speed standard but I am not sure what would bolt to the back of that 5.3 Liter. Need to do some research before I get started on that truck. Thanks for the compliments.

jason65,
Thanks for the compliment, now its on to the outside of the truck this week. We still need to sand the sealer coat on the outside so Im figuring either Thursday or Friday we will be painting again. Looking forward to being in the Rewiring Stage and putting it back together.

Project is coming out nice. I'm painting mine Torch Red also. On the top half, and interior, with black on the bottom half. I know for sure I'm sticking with that color after seeing yours. Nice work

Strodder,
That is some bright Red. I painted my 85 Toyota Guards red but I think there is to much orange in that red. So that is why I wanted to try a different Red on this truck. I really like it and cant waite to get the outside done. Thanks for the compliment. By the way the pictures tend to make the red look a little more orange than it really is. So just understand that its not quite as orange as it looks in the pictures.

I had a 93 Vette that color. So I'm familiar with Torch red. The Guards red is a Porsche color, and does have a lot of orange in it. But still a nice color.
