what history i know is that the original owner took the truck to mexico to get that upholstery done in the early 70s

Last I heard, you can still do that.

I had a shop in San Diego do the seats in my Barracuda years ago. A sweet price without having to cross the boarder.

Here's how mine was. When I took it all out there was about 60 holes where it was fastened to the roof and back of the cab. I saved the headliner and trashed everything else.

So did they just use screws with caps over them? Or is it a removable fastener? I have been playing with the idea of wrapping my whole interior, but there are both good and bad options.

They used screws with caps over them. Not the best solution by far.

I am so interior challenged , that is one of the reasons I like 60-63 chevy trucks ... I can change the whole interior color with a spray gun in less than a day ......

Thanks for the compliments! I was fortunate enough to have another cab in my shop that I hung upside down from the ceiling joists that I used as a mold. I made a fiberglass shell, then my interior guy covered the shell with 1/4" landau top foam, leaving it out of the center where the insert goes. He then covered the foam with the black ultra-leather. Before covering, he made the insert,placed it in the shell and drilled holes through both. He then used some sort of twine, to put through the insert, and covered it with 1/2" foam and sewed the pleats in. After covering the insert, he glued the insert to the shell,while pulling the twine through the backside and tying it off. Then he brought the complete headliner and shell assembly back to me, and we put it in and trimmed it out in about 3 hours.
It was a real pain to fit, for you have to trim the fiberglass shell to fit real well before you cover it,then trim the material to fit during the install, then install the windshield and backglass, and door weatherstrips, and make it look nice!

And that's why I wish I had a spare cab. Dave has a back half that I might steal to use as a mold for my rear section. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a cab when I am ready to do the top.

I'll be lucky just to get it all painted at this point. Nice work, seriously nice.

It would really help to use the actual cab you are going to use, for these cabs do have slight differences in the seams and such. I had to rework the shell I made in a couple of areas, around the corners and so on. It took a little grinding, cutting, and re glassing to make it work. It would have saved a bunch of work if I had used my cab.

I may try to do it using my cab, but my interior is so close to being done that I would hate to pull it all apart now. I might try it in place and see if it will work. I haven't seen many others like it, that's for sure.

Obviously a great deal of work and planning, and worth it! I was wondering if that was how you did it when I noticed the fabric reaching to all the edges. Excellent workmanship. Your headliner is the most desirable layout I’ve ever seen in one of these trucks.

It would appear that I'm resurrecting an old thread, but I made a visit to the upholsterer today and he got me thinking about some headliner ideas. My concern is the same as others. How would it mount?

I'd love to see some pictures of member headliners if there are any out there.

Here is mine. All done in my garage with Dap Landau Top and Trim Adhesive, 1/8" and 1/4" closed cell foam, and leather. The console is from a newer Silverado, built a framework for that. It uses brackets screwed into the front and rear pillars. Was actually pretty fun to do.
The headliner pieces are glued around upholstery two sided waterboard and then those are glued directly to the ceiling.
3M makes a mushroom style velcro called Dual Lock, expensive, but it will hold practically anything.
