Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets

You can reduce the 69-72 core support mounting hole with a thick washer ground down to fit in the larger hole then resize the washer hole as needed, use 60-66 (and 67-68) mounting kit to mount the core support to the frame. There was a thread not long ago discussing this and I do believe a 69-72 core support can be modified to work by removing the spot welded headlight buckets just use a spot weld cutter (Blair makes one there are others) then you will need to install headlight adjusters and the retaining spring to mount you headlights.

From what I have been able to find, the actual riveted on mounts are the same height, but youll want the 67-68 rad mount kit.

My vote would be for a 69-72 mount, cut down when torqued to achieve the 3/4" demension as needed for the '67/'68 core support...soooo, I guess that ties it up

Thats what I'm thinking about doing right now. I've got a poly rad support set that came with my cab mounts that I can cut down. Is 3/4" the correct installed height from frame mount to rad support? Searching, I found a few posts saying 1/2". Thanks!

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets

The rubber insulator pads for the 60-68 core support are around 1/8 in thick I have a set I can get pics of tomorrow for you or you could contact Wess (Classic Heartbeat) Frank Hamm (Franks Pickmups) I would not try cutting down the other bushings and then trying to compress it down to fit it will probably more than likely split on you , use the proper 60-68 mounting hardware after welding in a reducing washer in the frame mount and you should be good to go you can always shim it up with washers.

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets

I agree with suville, use the mounts for the correct year support. I have purchased many things from LMC Truck, but beware - thier radiator support mount is wrong. They only show one part number and it is for the 69-72 supports. I found this out the hard way. Had to re-order 67-68 supports from BrothersTrucks. They show the two different styles. There is a big difference between the two, and I would spend the money to get the right mounts, as opposed to fighting later to line up everything, and the hassle of trying to make the wrong mounts fit. Also, checked earlier and took measurments, the 67-68 hole in fram mount is 1.35" and the 69-72 is 1.94". Good luck !

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets

I also just did this put a 68 body on a 72 frame. I agree with seafoam68 that the hole was larger that was it. I machined a washer to fit the larger hole with the correct smaller hole and welded it in. Worked perfect

Well, to get the body lines of the front fenders to door looking right, I used a couple pieces of 1x boards as spacers. The gap is about 3/16", on mine. Whatever it takes to get the proper allignment

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets

This thread has helped clear up a few questions I had. My truck that I bought as a 68 is actually a mutt! 68 cab/front clip and a 69-72 frame.

When I pulled the front clip to do the LS2 swap I noticed these huge support cushions, not the thin rubber and washers that came in the 67/68 mount kit. So I guess I will be needing a 69-72 mounting kit to mount the support?

Here are a few pictures of what I have now. I suppose I could just reuse the poly mounts that had come out of there?

If all your body lines were good, I'd just let it be and use the poly that came out.

Some saying the mounts are lower on a 69-72 frame so you use 69-72 mounts. Others saying use the correct mounts for the rad support. I have a 68 Rad support and a 72 frame do I need;
1, 67-68 mounts?
2, 69-72 mounts?
3, Modify a set of 69-72 mounts?

Thanks in advance.
I think you are in the same boat I am in. So you should need the 69-72 mounts not the 60-68 mounts? I am going to reuse those 69-72 mounts because the body lines did line up.

Here is my 68 on a 69-72 frame prior to me removing the front clip!
