Chrome handles look sweet IF you have a few other chrome accents (bumper, etc.)

Re: 91 DD build
To ChevLoRay, I got the personality of being out spoken, very loud, and love everyone looking at me, either in a good or bad way. So I want my truck to do the same. But thats just me, everyone is diff.
To BigBlocksRule, I plan on some other chrome peices added..bumber, fender well trim, wipers, and varius others.

Re: 91 DD build
I didnt mean to come off sounding agressive. I was just statin me and you are too different people. But back to the build, I got some more work done to my hood, also finally got it back on the truck. Got me a set of 8in Rally's. Gonna go see if a buddy of mine wants to trade 2 of my 8in rallys for 2 7in rallys. Anyway, sorry no pics, its been raining for a week straight.

Re: 91 DD build
Well my friends dad didn't want to trade....Honestly he just didn't want to get up to look for the other rims, but oh well. I started sand blasting the Rallys that I do got down today. I almost got the front of one done tonight. I thought it was easy but now I know other wise about sand blasting. But anyway, as promised here are some pics of the Rally I did tonight compared to what I started with. And sorry no pics of the truck with its hood on yet, its still rainy...
As you can see, the one I was working on is the top one, and the bottom one is what I started out with. Another pic of the rim. With the beauty rings and center cap, I dont like the center caps too much, might change them out with something else, any ideas?

Re: 91 DD build
looks good, nice project. have you thought about baby moons instead of the center caps?
Plus i think that it is rather fitting that your truck has a blue engine considering that alot of GMs back in the day came with blue motors. I remember my dads 77 3/4 ton having a blue 454 |

Re: 91 DD build

Re: 91 DD build
Just so you know, it's a lot easier to sand blast something that's painted than something powdercoated

Re: 91 DD build
All that rain that you guys in GA got.....came from AR. Today, we have sunshine for the first time in 2 weeks.
As for a center cap, you are using wheels that I'd also like to use but don't have. I have also toyed with the idea of a different cap and have seen pix of some Astro centers on rallye wheels. I'll see if I can find a pic. These centers are on the chrome wheels like the SS54's had, but I have seen them on the rallye's. I don't have any idea who the girl is; the pic was sent to me to "showcase" the centers. I think it works.....

Re: 91 DD build
I got the Rallys from a friend of my dads. I got to get them painted and have tires put on them ASAP cause Im trading the rims that are on my truck now for them, but the guy let me go ahead and take the Rallys to get them done up how I like them. Around here, Rallys are very easy to find, most junk yards have piles of them, my neighbor himself as about 3 sets of them.

Re: 91 DD build
I got a question about painting my Rallys, could I just use the base and clear that I originally painted my truck with? Or is there a special paint I need to use?

Re: 91 DD build
Check at an O'Reilly's and they have paints for vans/trucks and some paints that are especially for wheels to replicate the original color. There is an Argent (silver-grey) that may be what you're looking for. As for a base/clear system I don't know how that would hold up but then I've used single-stage paint that wasn't for wheels. A clear-coat isn't a bad idea, though.

Re: 91 DD build
Well I want to color match them to my truck, I plan on painting my truck 2 tone. Blue on top, black in the middle, and blue on bottom. So I figured I would paint the rims blue just like my truck color would be. Thats why I asked if I could use the base/clear system. If not I will go to the local shop that I buy my paint from and talk to them about some powdercoating. See if they can match it to the truck. If not Im pretty sure they can special order rim paint the color that I want, and for a decent price too. Its nice that the local shop will give me and my dad a discount, considering we have bought from them and only them for the past 3 years now.

Re: 91 DD build
Alright, pulled an all-nighter workin on this freaking rim. I got it done sand blasted, smoothed down, and primered. And yes I did use self-etching and Epoxy then filler primer. Here are some pics.
Here is what it started as. After sand-blasted and smoothed out And primered Thanks for looking, still gotta finish thnis one and paint it. Plus got to do three others just like it. Any comments replies are welcome. Tell me what you think.

Re: 91 DD build
Nothing to be ashamed of at all.
As for the powder coating, there's some colors now available that have the effect of looking like several different colors, so the "travel" as they talk in paint shops. Remember the "Mystic" finish on Mustangs about 10 years (or more) ago? I've seen some Powders that do the same thing.

Re: 91 DD build
I just painted my rally wheels with just regular paint. I figured if it lasted several years it was worth the cheap cost. I wouldn't see a problem with using the same paint as you are doing the truck with. I would think it would be just as good as wheel paint.

Re: 91 DD build
Well, right now Ive hit a stopping point in the primering, Autozone is were I normally buy my specialty reducer, and they no longer carry it. Now I could drive down to the paint shop my dad always buys from, but they dont open till monday and I want to try to get this wheel finished tomorrow. So I got to find a store the carries Dupli-color specialty reducer.

O'Reilly's ? They have DupliColor, so maybe they have what you need.

Re: 91 DD build
Not yet, been looking though. I was gonna see if the center caps of my 91 stock rims will work on these.

Re: 91 DD build
They should fit without a problem. I actually used ChevLoRay's idea about using the Safari centers on my 94 and it looks ALOT better (in my opinion) than the stock truck centers, as they have a more smooth look than the stock centres. But thats just my two cents.
