This one gets from 22 to 25, depending on where you buy your gas at.

6-9mpg difference in fuel mileage isn't the only consideration. Look at true cost of ownership.
On any car I'm looking to buy I always check out what the insurance cost difference is over a full year not just the remaining term.
Some cars like F bodies are very expensive to insure. The extra cost of insurance could be more than your 6-9MPG fuel mileage savings.

I wouldn't. But you may have other reasons for your purchase.

Hatzie, I know what you mean about the insurance cost. That's the first thing that I did before I even considered getting the car. I got the basic info on the car, called my insurance agent and got a quote. It turns out that in order to insure this Camaro, it'll cost EXACTLY THE SAME as my truck currently does.

One thing I noticed about the radio in this car is that it is a 1.5 DIN. How can I make my single DIN Alpine fit this?

Thanks
Benjamin.

You can buy the adapter at Wal Mart for $15-$20 to make the radio fit.Are you sure it's a 1.5 din. It's been a few years since I owned a turd gen and don't remember

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?

I'm pretty sure it's a DIN and a half. It looks about like this one.http://forums.aaca.org/attachments/f...neer-radio.jpg

Most stereo shops sell an adapter that fits in the 1.5 DIN space to fit a standard DIN stereo into for about $15.

Insurance rates on V-8 Camaro's suck. My insurance rate got bumped once due to the car being a Z/28 and again for it being the 5.7 liter version over the base 305 RS that I also had.

The third gens can get pretty good mileage if you drive them right. I got 28 mpg on a road trip with my 91 RS 305 TBI car doing 75 mph and routinely got 19 mpg running around town and 24 mpg freeway with my 91 Z/28 TPI 350 car.

Comparing that to 10 & 16 mpg for my Z/71 and it pays off quite nicely.

The 4x4 was not cheap to insure like my older 2-wd truck was and the insurance cost the same as the 5.7 Z/28.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?

I would hold off on this one and find a Camaro with no body damage and not needing paint work. Body work and paint are the most time consuming and costly things you will ever do to a vehicle. This is coming from somebody who worked at a body shop for five years.

Try to find a T-top car too. Half the joy of owning these cars is being able to pull the tops off on a nice day.

If you don't like the power of the V-6 you can always do an engine swap. They are very common in the wrecking yards. I can get a complete engine and transmission assembly out of a third gen with a 30 day warranty for under $200.

The up side to the engine swap is that it will still have the V-6 VIN number and insurance rates no matter how fast you make it

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?

I'm gonna try to get this car. The bodywork, it doesn't bother me. I actually like doing bodywork. Paint isn't a big deal because if I have this for a few years I'm gonna repaint it anyways. T tops? No way, they are more prone to leaking than a hardtop. Engine swap is out of the question for me because I am getting this car for mileage, not performance.

Good luck with it.

As a side note all the 82 to 92 Camaro and Firebird doors interchange and so do the fenders so you can get a nice door from a wrecking yard cheap and save yourself a bunch of time fixing that door plus have a spare set of the window regulator & track parts that are prone to failure.

The local pull it yourself junk yard here only charges $21 for a complete door off a car.

Count on getting a set of door hinge rebuild kits.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?

Well, we have finally got an agreed price. We decided that $1,700 would be fair to both of us. Now for someone to buy my truck for $2,000.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?

i disagree with the popular opinion; These are great cars. What i especially like is that they look like the Z-28 camaro when the 3rd gens first came out, but with 6cylinders.

i owned one of these and i got about 27mpg. i think they are just fine for commuter cars. i will probably get another one although to me the difference in v-8 mpg vs. v-6 mpg is not that much with these cars.

2) Now, as far as selling the truck to get this car, i don't know about that.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I?

My truck has been on craigslist for Peoria, Quad Cities, and La Salle Co. for 2 weeks and the only bite I had on it was a trade for a 16ft. bass boat. How else can I get $2,000 out of it?
