Ok, but I'm talking about the even bigger D60 that is used in the F450's and F550's. The axle tubes are bigger as well as the axles, and supposedly the ring and pinion are also bigger. I'm trying to locate one for a specific class in a pulling truck. It has to be 8 bolt pattern to be allowed in the class and this axle I think could be the strongest for what we want to do.

Re: dana 60

the shaft arent any bigger and they are over all just a blown up pooperduty axle. after dealing with the ford/dodge axles lately i can honestly say that they are giant turds with $$$$ parts. if you get an 8 lug its going to be a big 8.75" pattern not a small truck 170mm.

the unit bearings are now skirting 500 each and the vacume/auto hubs has got to be the stupidest thing i have ever seen put into production.

now they have a third bearing in them similar to a spindle bearing, but unlike a spindle bearing they turn when the truck is in 2wd!!!!! and at $75 if you now how to find them, ford wont sell them as a single, only with the 500 unit bearing.

the amount of stupid desinging that goes into the balljoint axles has made me a kingping man for life.

Re: dana 60

Hey guys the best place to find D60s in the military ton and a quarter is at www.gsaauctions.gov also lots of 2 1/2 ton trucks for axles.
I bought mine for $1065.00, drove it home (bootleg style) pulled the axles, tranny &t-case (T400-208) entire driveline. I used the 60 front, kept all the other parts for future projects and then sold the remainder of the truck with the diesel motor for $800 bucks. Extra work, but got my front 60 for a lot less than swap meet prices.

I had a center out of a Superduty, Dana expert said F450/550, was a standard HP60 with 4.88 gears. Still was balljoint, might have had lockouts, dunno cause all I got was just the center and tubes, nothing else.

If I remember correctly when I used to work for a Ford dealer (about 3 years ago) The new at the time 450's and 550's did have lockouts. I know some of them had 19.5" rims also, so they might have had more than 8 lugs I can't remeber. Also, most Fords that are 8 lug don't have the same 8 lug pattern as chevy's and dodge. They are the metric 8 lug patter. Would that matter for your class?

Re: dana 60

I still have yet to call them and see, I got reluctant because of the price, but now I think I need a new front (Im pretty sure mine is seized Im just about to check on that)and I dont really want to rebuild this one and def dont want to buy another d44 unless it was a smoking deal. So I guess Ill start searching for the best deal, I get my dl back in a week so then I can drive to further locations

Re: dana 60

they made a military blazer that had the d 60 in front right? I swore I had seen one and know its been awhile since Ive seen one. I might get one in the next couple months if they came with the d 60, otherwise Ill just get the k30. I got my drivers back this week and need a driver(since my project looks like it wont be done anytime soon) and figure I should just get a blazer or k30.

Re: dana 60

nope. if it does have a d60 it was put in afterwords. blazers only came with 1/2 ton axles.
(d44/12bolt or 10 bolts)

I agree. Me and my buddy recently bought 2 of them. We paid almost the exact same price you did, however, from what I have seen they usually go for around $1,500 to $2,000 in good condition. If you have the means to go get the trucks and bring the home, this is the way to go. I only bought mine for the axles, but it turned out that both trucks run and drive. We ended up buying another one that doesn't run a few weeks later because I started feeling guilty about parting out a perfectly good truck.

Re: dana 60

I just noticed maybe he bought from a different site. We bought from Government Liquidation. It's an auction site. There are locations all over the country. We usually buy from the one in Lousiana because it's as close to us as the bases in Texas and you don't have to pay sales tax. My friend has probably bought 10 to 12 trucks (2-1/2 tons, 1 tons and Blazers) over the last four or five years. It's too far for us to go look at the trucks before hand. We just bid as if the truck will only be good for parts. Sometimes you get lucky. All I wanted was the axles and ended up with a decent truck that actually runs and drives pretty good. I bought some generators on this site that were complete garbage, so this truck kind of made up for getting ripped off the last time! As long as you can see that the truck still as the axles under it in the pictures, you probably can't go wrong.

Re: dana 60

I agree with Greenlee, It is usually the axles wer'e wanting. Just check the site every few days, you can shop by state or type of item.

Re: dana 60

I picked up a dually 60 at a yard here for $85 total, $20 to torch it out. Traded it for a crossmember and motor mounts to swap in a Cummins in my 89 CCSB.

Re: dana 60

Gotta love u-pull it yards. Get this tho, they wanted MORE for a t-case than the front axle. It was $125 I think for the t-case, and $65 or something like that for the axle.
