Two things:
First of all your skills to be able to put something like that back together and make it look good is absolutely amazing. VERY nice work!

Secondly, WTF would anyone want to repair that? Seems to me like insurance companies will spend $2 to save $1 and in the process making US less safe?? Not dog'n your work by any means, just doesn't seem right?

For now, until they trim it out. Then I get to hang all of the sheet metal and send it back to paint then back to me for build up. I'll post up pics as I go.

If insurance companies totaled every car that took a shot in the uniside, there would be a lot of guys like Alan in the unemployment line, and your rates would be even more through the roof than they are now. Judging from the photos, that car is not a lemon, and is every bit as safe as it was before it was popped.

Got the dash back in and it runs. LOL

Ready for some sheet metal

The after market fender doesn't fit good around the hood and door area. When I fit the fender before I didn't have the hood or the area where the hood bolts to welded in yet. I played with the after market fender more than I usually do to get it to fit to no avail. Waiting on an OE fender to see if it corrects the problem. I haven't met a after market fender yet that fits a Japanese car.

I bought aftermarket front fenders for my 86 Toyota truck back in the day and the fit on them sucked too, but in NY, OE fenders that weren't half gone were impossible to find. It was a "truck" so I didn't care too much about the fit, I was just tired of my fenders flapping around

We do what we have too.

It's been done for about a week now, just getting around to posting pics.

Don't mind the bumper color match. We didn't paint it and it doesn't match the other side neither.

Then people sometimes dogs the body shop for it when there insurance doesn't pay for stuff such as this. This car came in like this with the bumpers not matching. They picked it up a couple of weeks ago and have not been back yet. Knock on wood.

Just for comparison I snapped pics of another MAzda 3 that hit a deer, spun around and hit a mail box. Guess what a different insurance totaled this one. Go figure.

Total body hours was 145. I don't know the total $ amount right now, but can check on it at work. I use a grinding stone on a die grinder for most of the welds on this particular job. I used a hand air drill with a 8mm bit when I drilled the new panels when it went back together. I also used this tool some.

Thanks for the compliment, the tool is awesome. No effort at all to use it. Just pull the trigger and it clamps down and drills the spot weld.

It was a big job and I felt really good after it was all done. BTW insurance is reconsidering the white mazda 3. It might not total after all. Usually that means it's totaled but worth repairing.

Really Nice work Alan. In defense of the Insurance Company, They did give you work instead of just totaling it. Some one told me the other day that their shop sees nothing over 2 years old if the airbag is deployed (Disposable little cars) . The insurance just totals it and the shop misses out on the work.
