Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
I have really seen much worse called restored. I think is a nice truck maybe not for the purist but a guy like me would take that truck change them ugly ass wheels lower it corectly and call it a day. I am not a big fan of that color but I could live with it...I wonder how much he is asking maybe 10k or so

Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
When somebody advertises something as restored then it is assumed that it is put back to factory specs.
The seller is a dealer, and has no issue upselling the finer points, but he should probably come clean about it being pieced together from several different trucks. The cab is not a 67 cab, the fenders are not 67 fenders, the frame maybe, but has obviously been hacked together. Either the bed was shortened to match the frame or is from a SWB truck. So where exactly is the "restored 67"? I for one am just sick of people being dishonest in general about things. Seems as if this economy has brought out the worst in folks. This post was meant to be humorous....my bad.. sorry if I offended... And yes I will post my trucks up....pick away, I'm not trying to pawn them off as something theyr'e not to unsuspecting folks.

^^^^^no hack job or heated springs but plenty of nearly 40 year old rust. Hey doesn't rust free mean the rust was free???

Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
I just thought we were trying to find things on it that were not of the 67 year. No bashing intended. I love the truck, hell it is better than any one of my three I have. I am using parts from every year on my swb. There is nothing wrong with it, just what I gotta do with limited funds.

Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
I sent an email asking about it and he said it sold over the weekend. Asking price was 16,500 according to the gent who answered me. He also said it was "modified" during the "restoration" and that would be the reason for the changed parts.
Now we had better be careful what we say when the new owner comes on the board proud as a peacock and shows us photos of his "new restored truck". |

Restored is restored in my opinion... Never saw anyone say it was all original...
Funny how much a little wording can screw things up though** lol Last edited by T/C; 10-20-2009 at 04:19 PM. |

Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
Yea, the concept of "restored" is pretty broad in some circles.
With most of us here it is back to show room stock while others think anything older that has been redone with fresh paint and upholstery is restored. |

Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
I think its a great looking truck! My only problem is it being advertised as something its not. Who does a frame off resto, and gets body colored overspray on the frame.

Do not get me wrong i don't think something just thrown together can be considered restored.. But i do not think you have to be trying to please the purist to be considered restored..

I don't see anywhere in the ad where this truck was trying to be pawned off as a 100 point show truck. They even included pics of the welded frame. They weren't trying to hide anything. There have been a couple polls on here to the effect of "how many trucks did you use to built yours" or something like that... LOTS of "frankenstien" trucks out there. INCLUDING this one:

Yes, most '68 and earlier did, both cars and trucks.

cdowns
Whats wrong with rubber fuel lines? Manufacturers use them today with out a second thought. Is it rubber you don't like or the way they are run? I have heard a couple different folks on here have that as a pet peeve. Just curious. AJ |

Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
I think cdowns is reffering to if you use them and do not keep an eye on them they will crack leak fuel and cause a fire. I used them when I first put my 383 in, but after firing up and popping the hood and seeing fuel spray I personaly will not use them again.
Am I just blind but I cant see the welded frame, all in all a good looking truck maybe the seller just needs to be a little more specific and careful with his description.

Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
Some of this thread is kind of harsh.I know a lot of you think of yourselves as car guys.If you truly are a car guy you should be able to see the vehicle in question as it is.The original hot rods were not restored, they didn't have matching parts, and they were peiced together from what the owner/builder could scrounge. Many if not most of us come from this school of "car guy" and are proud of what we built, are building, trying to build or bought and personalized.
I for one always try to disclose what I know about a vehicle if I'm selling it.Dealers are not "car guy's" and are really only out to make money. Why would they point out anything but the positives of what they are trying to sell?

Honesty, Scruples, Morals, etc... Panel, you have driven my point home.... Guys like this (dealer) are what have driven this hobby into the ground, selling scabbed together " retored" frankensteins to unsuspecting folks. Yes we as "car guys" can spot the issues and make an informed and educated decision on if we want to shell our 12k on it, if we can haggle and fix the issues, or if we want to walk away.... Joe Public is going to drool over the shiney paint, not knowing the frame is scabbed together or if the front disks are gonna work in a panic situation due to the use of a drum master cylinder, etc.... he is going to buy it to drive it, which in this case could be a very unsafe decision.... Climbing my fat a$$ off my soap box now...

Re: Beautiful 67 SWB on CL.....or not so much
Hey guys...
As much "fun" as it seems like to be tearing someone elses ride apart, I think it should stop here. I don't think that anyone here would like to have thier own ride picked apart by everyone and exposed for others to laugh at. It is a little different if someone is looking to buy a truck and is asking for our opinions, but this is not the case. We need to remember that perhaps the person who built this truck is a member. It's a nice looking truck... we need to leave it at that. Nothing good is going to come from this thread. Don
