Gas Tank Relocation

Thanks Putter. I might have to get those directions again, and thanks for the offer on lifting the cab. I'm gonna hold off on my request for favors as long as I possibly can. I'm sure there'll come a time when I need some and I don't want to use them up too quickly.

Not the most elegant but with a tonneau cover no one sees it and it's out of the way... just drop the tailgate, don't have to mess with the cover.

I'm thinking of grafting a newer model filler door into my bedside. Would it be easier to use the side marker filler (no bodywork)? What type hinge are you guys using for the side marker? What type of vehicle/year was it? Thanks!

That is a good point. All the bending back & forth of the marker light wiring every time you put gas in it is just asking for a broken connection or chafed wire that could cause a spark in the worst place possible.

The only good thing is that unless you are filling the tank with your lights on the lamp circuit will not have power when you have the filler cap off.

Definitely secure the wires well to the gas door and wrap them with tape and wire loom where they come anywhere near the cut out in the fender just to be safe.

ROTFLMAO! It is a pretty truck, but as your tagline sez...it's a bit like putting lipstick on a pig. Sure, it still looks like a truck but do you actually think that truck will ever see anything on that bed floor????

There is absolutely nothing about that truck that is in any way practical...unless you use it to wake the neighbors....or just show off!

I like the look of the side marker light fill but my hands are too big to reach in and take the cap off.When I was building mine I did alot of measuring and ended up with the S-10 fuel door. I know it's not original and it is in a F#*d location but it's easy to fill and I'm not worried about scratching the paint with the nozzle trying to fill thru that small hole.

What would a shot charge to weld in the filler door? and do the bodywork lets say for it. have a welder but need gas for it and dunno how to weld guess i should leearn.

I recently installed a new rear mounted fuel tank on my 72 C10. I used the fuel tank out of a 69 Camaro. I did the drop down license plate and it works great. I used the filler tube and grommet from the original tank to finish it out. I have included a link to a recently post - along the same lines, we took the original fuel tank (behind the seat) and made a speaker box out of it and it bolted up perfectly. You use a newer style filler door/hinge/gas cap. Cut the filler door so the marker light will bolt on. weld/attach the hinge/door (easiest to just weld the assembly behind the marker light).

The only possible advantage of a kit is that the fuel door would be cut already.

Thats the way I did mine also. I had an exhaust shop bend a piece of pipe for under $20 and welded the vent into. I unsoldered the stock valve piece (under the gas cap) and had the new pipe swedged for it. The tank fills wide open now but does have a tendancy to burp when the pump cuts off. I looked into the marker light setup on the fleet side and figured out there was not enough room without modding the inside of the box. Eventually I will make an enclosure so the filer looks almost factory on the inside. I really like the 31 gallon tank and extra traction.

Looking for some help, Have a 1967 Chev C10 LWB fleetside, will be installing an aluminum tank and would like fill behind brake light. Any information/pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seeing all of these tank installs and they are all pretty sweet. Has anyone else done the LMC top fill tank? I just did one a few months ago and was pretty happy with it. The only problem I have is the straps that came with the kit seemed to be to short. What are you all running for mounting kits?
