Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
I don't think these will fit a stock grill and $200 for a cheap looking plastic grill

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
I like the look of the stock '73 grille on my truck. I plan on lightly sanding it, priming and painting it. It would be kind of an expensive mistake if this emblem doesn't fit my stock grille!

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
You can machine turn with a drill and an ink eraser, sandpaper, or wire brush. Just keep repeating the pattern. Experiment. Enjoy.

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
Check this out. There is a placed called FPM Metals that machine turns and has colors too. I have not sent an exact pattern to them yet but I will bet it is expensive for just one.

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
I can check with my mom. I'm not sure if she got the software problem on her mill figured out. This wouldn't be that hard to do.

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
Actually both terms are correct. I think you will find that it was called "engine" turned long before "machine" turned became popular. And here's another one "Pattern Polished"
Do a Google on both terms and you will get several hits. Here's a good one- FPM Metals is a leader in the production and development of "Pattern Polished Metals" for architectural and automotive applications. The process of polishing known as engine turning, swirling or jewelling dates back into the 1800's. Engine turning or jewelling is a process of polishing stainless steel or other metal items with small overlapping swirls that form a moiré pattern. This jewelled pattern creates a dazzling finish that reflects light and makes the surface seem alive. Probably the most famous application of engine turning can be seen on the cowling of Lindbergh’s “Spirit of St. Louis”.

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
I was looking through another thread and found vinyl engine turn. A bow tie could be cut from this.

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
I can make the emblems as well, I could just have them cut out of the 16ga metal I use for the speaker brackets. They could be painted...or "pattern polished"

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
I was looking for the same thing. I went by my local Chevy dealer and they have a Texas flag emblem to replace newer model emblems. Seemed to be pretty heavy duty. I bet it could be cut to fit just right if you have the original. You guys not from Texas, sorry!

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
I did some comparing with an emblem from the early-mid 80's
it is just right enough to be completely wrong

Re: New Bowtie Chevy Emblem for a '73 Grille
I put a 73' grill on my truck and could not find a replacment. I just made one out of 1/8" aluminum and painted it chevy orange.
