I've been looking for a set of those to put on my Toyota 4x4 truck. Hard to find in this area.

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

Definitely a Euro-retro look.I`m thinking Italiano.European steel wheels are what rallyes are styled after. In the era of these trucks you`d see these steel wheels on track cars, just a bit wider than stock.Looks sharp!

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

I got the idea several years back when I noticed someone here on the board was using a set of Toyota Tacoma rims to move their rolling chassis around the shop. then I started looking for the widest and nearest offset to 4.5" I could. since I love steelies (and FJ's, oops) I started trolling the Toyota lots and taking measurements. I guarantee I looked quite "interesting" on videotape stalking around the car lot @ 11pm with a measuring tape.

these rims are 7.5wide, with a backspace a little over 5.0". as Andy stated, I had to make sure the lug nuts fully seated in the rims before I went any further, but they seated fully.

as for anyone wanting a set, I was able to find them on the bay @ $45 per rim. I called the seller (a wholesaler out of Ohio) and asked if he could make me a deal on 5. so the whole shooting match after shipping was under $350.

here's the pic Keith mentioned with the caps I got for them. Keith has them on rallyes and look great, but on these rims....... I just don't know.

thanks gang for all the compliments. I just try to show you that for under $600, you can have a full set of rims and tires that are unique. wonder how long I'll keep these on?

okay, next time you see this truck, she'll have bags and hopefully laying a bit of frame...........

They look great, but I think the center cap would be better.

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

Very cool. What might look cool would be the the early baby moon caps that are painted white with the bowtie stamped. It would kind of go with your white roof and the painted bumpers you took off.

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

Jared,
been thinking of going back with white bumpers. you may have hit on a good thought.

these rims do not have a means of holding a cap, so I may have to do some engineering to get a smoothe cap to work. BUT I like the idea. that's the look your going with on the panel, correct? oh and thanks for the pm with the air bag link!

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

My wheel don't have anything to hold a cap either. What I'm probably going to get is some wheel clips and drill and bolt them in.

How were the prices on that link to others?

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

you could get police car rallys that would fit properly and look almost exactly like those. 15 X 8 with rally wheel cap provisions

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

Andy, we're thinking alike. I had that thought after I fit the caps on there. the 9C1 Caprices had the exact same look in a 7" wide steelie, sans 17" diameter. the Caprice ran what looked to be a 74 and up truck rallye cap (note the 3 screw retainers).

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

ahhh, i thought they were 8 inch wide... and also failed to realize these were 17's.
I saw the 9C1 wheels on a pick up a few years ago painted silver/argent and was like WTH is that?

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

they do look good, don't they?!

there's a website that sells the 9C1 rims fairly reasonable. maybe someone will go that route with their rig sometime......

What spacers did you need to make this work? I need new tires in the spring and may as well go with a new look. I like this a lot.

Doug,... maybe you can paint one of your extra chrome plastic center caps "white",... for the poverty look!

Someone needs to photoshop your wheel picture.

Looking very cool but I want to know what "hub centric" means. I am just a dumb ole hick CRNA from southeast MO.

Re: ...and now for something completely different...

hub centric means that the rim is centered on axle stub which is machined concentric to the axle centerline.

these wheels are more of a "lug nut centric" type. this means that the bevel on the lug nuts center the rim on the rotor/axle flange.

clear as mud, Mr. Anesthetist?
