Re: Body side trim - opinions wanted

I like the look of the second rendition of the spped lines. It really does bring the old school look. I think with some tinkering it can be made to look just right.

I do also like the work the 19gmc63 did. I've always liked the way ghosted in accents look. Maybe try the speed lines in the same fashion? If they don't pop out quite as much it may help them blend in to the body lines instead of trying to exagerate them or compete with them for your eyes attention.

Your ideas sound great. I'll put some effort into another rendition. Thanks for the input.

Yeah Andrew look at this one it's post # 5 at the very bottom left it's a different color but the shape of the flames are right. I would like yellow fade into orange and orange fade into red in satin colors high-lighted around the outside with a narrow yellow stripe if that's possible and thank you for your expertise.---Vernski

Re: Body side trim - opinions wanted

If I were to paint flames again I'd probably pattern them after the Ed Roth flames on the sides of Tom McMullens old 32 roadster.
http://www.streetrodderweb.com/featu.../photo_10.html

Flames can really be tricky. The ones shown on my old 54 were the 3rd layout. Earlier attempts were too stubby or thick and looked more like the backbone of a dead fish.
They're are a lot like louvers, it's a lot easier to do them wrong than to have them come out perfect.

Re: Body side trim - opinions wanted

I've looked at this thread a bunch of times as its gotten longer and longer. I think I have to agree with Vernski and I think the lines(original pic) would look good extended across the door and the fender trim would complete the look.

Why did you pic three? Are you trying to emulate styling off something else? Sorry if I missed it in all the text.

The photoshop kicks major butt!!

My original concept was somewhat of an homage to the old 48 Chevy Fleetline fastback. Always loved that body style, especially with the fender skirts, also wearing the trim. Didn't know if it would "work", but that was the intent.

Re: Body side trim - opinions wanted

Vernski, I hope these are the flames you were talking about... that silver truck with the snorkel hood is the only flamed truck I see in post #5. If not, not a big deal... I can do another one.

And Mark, here's one with some flames like the Ed Roth ones on that deuce.

Outstanding on both renditions. Thanks again for the investment. I know it takes some time to pump these out. Regards, M.

Re: Body side trim - opinions wanted

Those both look fantastic, but in my opinion the ed roth style in the second picture work better with the overall look of the truck.

Re: Body side trim - opinions wanted

Mark asked for opinions and man he sure is getting them! As a huuge fan of old school flames I am digging all the posts to this threads.

IMHO Mark's truck is killer because of all the subtle changes. The old school fade type and the Roth style flames, while very cool, are kind of "me too". Perhaps phantom flames like the one's shown below would work?

Mark, Your original idea of using styling cues borrowed from Chevy shoeboxes is very unique... don't give up on it!

Re: Body side trim - opinions wanted

These ideas are super cool.
I have a black 66 stepside justr like Mark's, with the same problem.
I am looking for some idea to breakup all the black but something a novice like me can do at home.
I have toyed with two-tone, scallops, stripes, etc. but nothing looks quite right.
I have even compared white on black and copper on black but again something seems missing.

You guys with photoshop work wonders and these were indeed helpful.
