How did you put the front end of the s10 on it? Could you show pics?

Re: '53 gmc new project
S10 front clip grafted to original '53 frame. It's 3/16" plate cut to make the transition, inside is reinforced with 1/4" plate plug welded to the inner frame for strength. I'm going to box the entire frame eventually. Just started working on it again, I'll post some more progress pics as work continues. |

Re: '53 gmc new project
Here's a pic of the rear end / 6 link in progress. Just picked up a 4x4 S10 blazer rear end out of a '98 with discs (59.25") yesterday. Fits better than the ZR2 axle (63.25"), plenty of clearance on the fenders but had to trim the bed slightly with only a 255/35 tire. The rear rails are boxed and notched out of 3/16" stock. The 6 link is modeled similar to the Thornebecke bros kit. Most of the brackets and links are done now, just need to tack everything in place. The two link brackets where the triangular bars join will be mounted under the crossmember. The bags will ride on the rear link bars. Still need to mount the shock bar, fab axle brackets for the triangular links and complete the bottom rails of the frame where it's notched. This past weekend I finished the new radiator support, front bumper mounts and steering column base mount. Working on the rear end next weekend, hopefully I'll be fabbing mounts for the motor/trans soon! |

Re: '53 gmc new project
Looks really good and clean welds. I like the c-notch. I like the s-10 frame because you can lay frame without having to cut the frame and that would be using 20's or 22's.

Re: '53 gmc new project
'55 chevy had it about 4 years now so far: it has an ls1/t56, notcched, bagged w/ shockwaves up front, 4 link, 9 inch posi, 4 wheel discs, C4 front suspension, new floors, full quarters, firewall, trunk, tailpan, tubs, inner outer rockers, braces, thru frame exhaust, flowmasters, 18/20 rim combo, etc etc.... this ones going to be flat black!!! Built the chassis from an original frame. Last edited by kdog3121; 04-19-2010 at 08:46 PM. |

Re: '53 gmc new project
an LS1 and 6 speed should be pretty sick... need to finish motor mounts but transmission mount is done. Looking at the exhaust, I may have to build headers for it.. it's really tight in the S10 clip. Last edited by kdog3121; 04-18-2011 at 07:43 PM. |

Re: '53 gmc new project
looks sick man,
I haven't seen backs that far back in the rear. I have you done it like that before? I have heard over the axle is a bit rough and I have seen alot just right in front of the axle. I really like the patina and overall truck.

Re: '53 gmc new project
thanks for the compliments!
thorbecke brothers sells a 6 link kit for S10's - one of my friend bought it and installed it on his truck. Rides great. The setup on my truck is setup very similar but it's not the Thorbecke kit. I used 1.5" bars and 5" bags out back. It should ride pretty good - i don't care for the bag over axle design at all. |

Re: '53 gmc new project
1 3/4" headers w/ 5/16" flanges custom built from scratch to fit the LS1 in a Z'd S10 front clip. Not much room especially on the driver side due to the steering shaft. Going to TIG butt weld the joints and have them sent out for jet coat. Finally got some tubular control arms, put the rest of the brakes together and cut out for the RE7 7" bags up front. Making some progress, but still a ways to go. Need to build a new mount for the p/s pump and a support for the electric fan. Haven't figured on how to do the intake yet - I only have about 4 1/2" from the intake nose to the radiator support. Cajundragger (dustin) has a square air filter from S&P? which would probably work, but I need the dimensions. Last edited by kdog3121; 08-28-2011 at 09:19 PM. |

Re: '53 gmc new project
3/8" smc valves for FBSS plumbed and wired up. I used parker fittings with air brake line - great quality stuff but not cheap. 1/4" to gauges and 1/2" line to bags. Installed a 20 gal fuel cell plumbed with fuel pump and corvette regulator. Next project is to get a set of hanging pedals from a square body s10 for the clutch, build a power steering pump mount (going with wrangler 4cyl remote pump), pull the motor and weld up the front end, motor mounts and transmission mount. |

Re: '53 gmc new project
I changed the front radiator support and built one from scratch. Thats a champion radiator for a 64-65 mustang with an electric fan. New fuel rails and 7" brake booster. 28" steering column with jeep cherokee lower steering shaft & u joint. I bought a cheap shorty air filter but I don't like it, thinking of going into the inner fender if I have room. |
