Re: Action's project - 1966 C10

I got the cab removed thanks to "Strodder" 1965/73 Cheap Build Up thread. This site is so helpful and full of great ideas!

Cool to see your son involved. Mine wants to, but usually when I ask for his help, he is too busy with his own hobbies (he is real into RC Cars right now)....but sometimes he does help out

Re: Action's project - 1966 C10

I removed the rear coil springs today while the temperature was in the 70's. We have a cold front moving in tomorrow and it is supposed to get down in the 30's. Gotta love Texas!

I jacked up the frame 1 side at a time to relieve the pressure on the coil, sprayed a bunch of PB Blaster on the bolts and waited about 30 minutes. All 4 bolts ended up busting anyways.

Coils removed and tools I used:

Check out that drop!

Yeah, I've noticed that it has to be his idea to help me out. If it's my idea, it's not much fun.

I love the look of that engine compartment on your build thread, hopefully mine will look that good someday too.

I decided on a body off restoration. I didn't want to regret anything later.

Question Re: Action's project - 1966 C10

I need a little help, I can't seem to get this apart! I first put the frame up on jacks, then jacked up the lower A arm and loosened the castle nut about a 1/4 inch, lowered the jack and beat it to death with a 3 pound hammer and also tried a pickle fork. Any suggestions? As you can see, I gave up and just cut the spring with a grinder. I re-attached it to the wheel and tried beating on it some more. HELP! I still have the other side to do.

I got the crossmember removed.

With the help of a "little" PB Blaster of course.

Got the trailing arms removed from the frame and from the rear axle. Those U-bolts were something else, can you say hernia?
