Re: Cucv 4 me

Thats with those owners. I know plenty of guys with CUCV's with 4.56 gear who have over 200K on them. It all depends on the owner and the way they drive it.

I understand that, but these trucks worked hard for a living. 1 tons were built to be workhorses not commuters. FWIW I have seen plenty of daily driven 6.2's in the 350K range. I respect your undying love for the 6.2. My first diesel was a 6.5T diesel mechanical engine, it was great. It had good response and could pull a 22k lb triple axle gooseneck full of scrap iron down the highway no problem. But, nowadays its big block chevy or cummins 5.9 for me. I'd take a 6.2 but it's just not why I am trying to buy a CUCV.

But big blocks did the work of the diesel in pickups when there weren't any diesel pickups. They did it on minimal technology and plenty of fuel.

The 468 I have here is 425HP and 550LBS torque. I built just like one for a local street class sled puller a few years ago. It was in the top 3 at 75% of the hooks it made. It builds all the power down at low RPM. It is barely broken in. It's for fun, not cross country economy, and a cucv would make a good home for it. The cucv would be a sled pulling, wood hauling, hunting, cool truck. Plus, it would lay down some awesome burnouts with 4.56 gears, 33" scab tires, and this engine.

Re: Cucv 4 me

mix of impaitance, low gears, small tires, and no od, push a motor with a low rpm range and it will pop. it would be like driving a 350 around all day at 5k, sure it will do it, for a while.

Re: Cucv 4 me

Me and a buddy just bought two of them. They were listed as non running and no keys, but they both just needed the batteries charged to run and drive. We drove one of them onto the trialer.

A tired warrior of the 1980s in a world of low profile tires, front wheel drive, and plastic bumpers, where people stay in their houses until snowplows move the offending substance from their paths, too helpless to travel without AAA and chains and salt, clearing their windows with longhandled brushes while gently stepping around in the snow trying to stay nice and dry.

Re: Cucv 4 me

The ones we bought have lots of dents and dings, but not too much rust.

What is you guys' opinions about running the 4.56 gear axles with a TBI 350, 700r4, and 33 inch tires? That is my plan.

Just to comment here, USAF trucks would be regular "fleet" orders, not CUCV (which I guess you could consider to be a very special fleet order).

We also built fleet orders for the Navy, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, local domestic police forces, the Secret Service, power and utility companies and the railroads (like "Grand Trunk" railroad).

the paint they used is super spanky and very harmful when ground off[that how you know it good stuff], it seals and protects better.
