Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

I am using transdapt LSx plates with stock poly mounts with stock perches stock trans Xmember. F-body rad and fans.
Brother is using POL mounts and Xmember. made his own adaptor plates and using stock rad with stock fan and shroud.

I am using the Abbot Cable X box to run my stock speedo, can ship them for $300.

I do my own tuning and offer mail order tuning.

Using DT swap headers, currently about 2 wks out before DT has them out ready to ship.

I am using a Lokar shifter "rod" and brother is using the other Lokar cable style shifter linkage. both work. I am not able to go past 3rd due to angles of the way it is mounted. the cable style will allow you to reach 1st and 2nd but most of the time one does not need to actually get to those gears but some might want to....

Let me know if you have any more questions and I will do my best to help.

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

I got a question if you don't mind me stealing your thread.

I got a 5.3L from a 99 silverado.

With the mounts that you guys are talking about, does it put the engine in the "stock" location?

I see where you talk about the mounts allowing you to set it forward or back.

The reason I ask, if I kept stock trans (th350) or went with a non-electric overdrive, will it match up to it, or will I have to move the trans forward or backwards?

Thanks

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

The adpt plates let you use the stock mounting location
but the engine has a different foot print.
The th 350 should match up but not sure what you need to do to make it work? I have read about doing that on this site some place.
You should be able to use the stock trans mount with out a problem, as long as your engine mount angle works out.

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

Back to the 5.3 Mounting question.
Anyone else use the 5.3 stock mounts to adpt to the frame of a 71 GMC?
Thanks

STOCK LS ENGINE MOUNTS IN A 72 SHORT BED

That's my truck. I mostly lurk around here, but thought I might be able to lend a little insight. Those mounts are made using the frame stands off of a 2002 Silverado. They unbolt on the Silverado, so I took them and cut them up and welded to them to be able to mount them to the '72 frame. It's not real hard if you have the right tools (a welder and something to cut metal, cut off wheel, bandsaw ect.) and some metal fabrication experience. Just bolt the motor mounts to the engine, then cut the 2002 frame stands down until you can bolt them to the motor mounts, then put the engine in where you want it, level it side to side, and make some pieces to fill in the void between the engine stand and the '72 crossmember. When all is said and done, the engine will just about fall into position, and putting the three bolts in is easy. Hope this helps. Also, on post #47 of my build thread, it shows them finished, painted and mounted to the frame.

I have seen your post before but when you read so many you forget who's done what.
did you do anything with the steam line I have been reading about?
On your mounts you just added a adapter plate to bolt on you stock 71 motor mounts and that was all?
I will have a bunch more questions if your interested in helping a guy out.
Ya i made an adapter similar to the plate adapter already out there. reused the stock 71 engine and frame mounts.

The fans are stock LS1 camaro/firebird/corvette 98-up. i trimmed the lower part of the fan to fit into the stock 71 fan shroud mounts then made plates that screwed into the upper fan shroud mount.

The steam line, my 71 radiator had an extra nipple in it so i ran the steam line to it..... pic below
