Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

The car looks like it is missing a few parts that may be expensive. The body should be stripped. Four speed cars are worth a good amount more then autos. Power windows and seat. You could check with http://www.phs-online.com/ to find out pretty much anything there is to know about it, or at least how it originally came. If it was a pre 1970, I'd have a new car.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

You would have to put a bit of time and money into it but even in daily driver condition NADA gives it a value of over $12,000. As a 20-footer they value it at $23,625 and as a nicely restored car at $44,000.

If you like the car I say go for it. This is one of those deals you will think about for the rest of your life and wish you had taken if you don't do it. I have had several of these kinds of deals I wish I had taken but didn't for one reason or another.

It is much easier to find another square body short bed 4x4 than it is another numbers matching 4-speed GTO and it will cost you a whole lot less cash to get.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

Im pleading wit u dont do it!!! like someone mentioned b4 its not a 70.... that right off tha bat would b enough 4 me not 2 do it, and squares especially swb are becomin harder 2 find and more $$$ 2 buy when u do find them. U obvioulsy love ur truck just like im sure everyone else loves there's and its because of those countless hours and all tha money and everything that goes into them that makes them wut they are. And u can always say ill do this, and ill do that, and i can just get another 1 later and fix it up easy and never think twice about it agian, but tha truth of tha matter is u cant. even if u do find another one it wont b tha same it wont have tha exact same feel 2 it, power, look, ur taste. ur truck is like an old friend and u can always get new friends but u will never have another one just like it. but then agian it all depends on how much u love ur truck, i kno that is tha way i feel about mine. 4 me its not about tha money i could get 4 it or how much its worth, this or that. its happness that i get when im driving it or workin on it, showing it off, anything.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

That car does have more collector value, but just from those few photos it's an easy 20K to get it in shape. It has next to zero value as-is, that car looks like a heap that might need the works. Those two big chunks of bondo missing off the rear deck behind the rear glass aren't exactly confidence-inspiring. So you have to wonder about the bondo that hasn't fallen off and what it's hiding. The only way I'd bring that home would be if there was a stong emotional reason to.

Yeah, there's no way I'd trade my Blazer for that, and it does need the works. But I know it's solid and from the pics I'm not convinced that goat is.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

You have to be a car guy and a Pontiac fan to make it worth while. Many people on this board don't even own a car let alone one that is not a Chevy including me so this choice is really up to you. Don't let our biases sway your opinion.

I grew up with quite a few Pontiac nuts. Old Pontiac fans are a rare breed and most would sell their soul to get a numbers matching GTO in any condition. They would not think twice about trading a square body truck for one, even one as nice as yours. Every penny you put into that car will just increase its value.

The post-70 cars are an acquired taste. I happen to think they look better than the older ones and would rather have that 72 than a 67.

See if the guy will just sell it outright and for how much. Maybe you can have both.

I got an offer on my Blazer a few weeks ago, one under the windshield wiper there when I went to leave for the day. I kept it to frame.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

well, this might get me kicked out, word got around that i was thinking of trading (damn that grapevine) some guy offered me a 72 monte carlo, but i said no, a 70 gmc swb, but i again declined, 67 chevelle, was hard, but declined, too much work for me, after i called the guy to the gto, and we talked about me buying it from him, i got a call from a close friend, he said his friends mom had a 69 camaro, her old high school car, she wrecked it a year ago, and put it in the garage (garaged all its life) her husband bought all NOS sheetmetal for it, then they divorced, and he never finished it, my friend was going to buy it from her, he never did, so she gave it to her son, he doesnt want it, and ,y friend, again, did not purchase it, and tossed the idea to me, so tomorro or friday we are going to look at the car, from pictures it is ALL original, seems pretty solid (my friend went to see it when he was contemplating buying it and took pictures of EVERYTHING) trunk has no rust, quarters, rockers, floors, SOLID! only thing wrong id front end is off and front subframe is over about 1 1/2 inches, which my major is inframe and this is nothing, it is just an i6 car, but i have a fresh 383 in my garage to take care of that, it has less than 80,000 original miles and theres documents to prove that, camaros are my passion, have had 5 of them (and im only 19 haha) but never held on and regret it, but this, i dont think i can let it slip through! if i get pics thurs or fri i will post, so, we'll see swhat happens

I'd be a proud new pontiac owner, Camaros are overplayed. Yes square bodies are a dime a dozen, but if someone thinks they are rare you can have mine for 5g's..lol

yea, the kid is a good friend of mine and needs something to drive, i have another truck, so im goign to get the camaro from hims, and after i finish next semester buy the truck back after his 85 is finished, i like GTO's, and as overplayed as they are, i have always wanted a 69 camaro in my garage, my dad had a 69 RS when i was young, all original yellow with black stripes, it got stolen one night from the trans shop (along with my 70 nova SS and the shop owners t bucket) and we have been wanting to get another since then

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

I completely understand all of the points. I still have my 1st car ( a restored 68 Camaro w/ factory PS,PB,PW,AC, tinted windows). I have pondered getting rid of it several times over the past 20 years but, I have still managed to hang on to it. It has been lovingly garaged since 90'. I am now pondering getting rid of my 82' SWB and buying a 70' Camaro. Like I really need another project. I haven't even started work on my 77' Blazer. The deal however may be too good to pass up for $ 1500.00. If the guy would do a straight trade, the 82' would be gone.................................

yes, the camaro caught my interest immediately! he said he may try to come up with money or something else to give me, as he was only asking 2500 for the car, and thinks the truck is a way better deal, either tonight or tomorro afternoon i am going to look at the car, and i will get pics asap!

The Camaro sounds like a much better investment and even as a six cylinder car is well worth the effort it will take to rebuild it and upgrade the mechanical side of it.

I have owned 14 first gen Camaro's over the years and the 68 I have right now was my first car. I have thought about selling it a few times but luckily never followed through with it.

This one sounds like a great starting point for a cool car build. No historical value and no rare options so nothing to get the resto crowd's panties in a wad over. A blank canvas to build the car as you see fit.

The GTO with matching numbers would have been tough to modify without feeling guilt or getting ridicule from the purists. I get it all the time from people about my 68 because of its rarity (around 240 built with 350 hp 396 and the T-400 plus it has the RS package too making it even more rare) but I have at least put the original block and transmission in storage and race the car with a whole different engine & trans.

Good luck with the Camaro.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

$ speed GTOs are worth a premium. I'd say the one you're looking at would be worth about $4K. The Camaro sounds like it needs less work though.
