back in 87 idrove a 53 pup to school and loved it then it was mini trucks bought a 89 s-10 brand new and in 5 mths had put a sb in it.got married and a car was more important and we was a 1 car family for a long time.i said when i got another it would be a full size lb.i was born in 71 so that helped a little bit my buddy had a 72 lwb hit a pole headon and pulled motor/trans out.i gave $200 for the rest was planning on just a beater so i built a motor/trans.hooked a winch around rad. support and started pulling put a hood on it and drove the heck out of it found this board and fell in love with both sold my 70 ss bb nova project along with my 74 red/white/blue nova project because i love the trucks.park it to start a resto when i run across a 72 lwb bb cheyenne had to have it.then i was looking for some parts and found a 70 lwb for less than the parts i needed so i drove it home and i still refuse to part it

Grandfather's fault,
I remember riding in my grandfathers 70 when I was like 5 years old, I have some pics but since we moved I can't find the power cord for the scanner, and I new that some day I'd have one like it. He was into old cars and trucks witch has stuck with me. I now own the Studebaker he used to drive us around in back in the early 70's. He also restored a 23 model T , A 27 chevy model A and was working on restoring his company truck that was issued to him when it was new (52 Chevrolet 1/2 ton ) I'm trying to beat my cousin out of the Model T because he tore it down to the frame ten years ago and hasn't done anything with it. I still don't know why he tore it down it ran and drove when he came and got it??? |

what started it all
Well it was 1978 and my dad had a orange and white 72 and I learned how to drive in that truck and later I dated in that truck and learned first hand about the bird's and the bee's.lol
I remember towing our racecar to the track on Sat. nights also. Nothing but good memories with these trucks.

For me it was the fact that most of my family had these trucks. A few months before I was born, dad bought a light blue 69 C/10 lwb 327 3spd., and by uncle had a brown 69 C/10 lwb. In 72 that uncle traded in the brown one for an orange 72 C/10 lwb, and my other uncle bought the 72 Custom Camper that I own now. Then in the mid 70's my grandfather bought a gold 70 C/20 from the Washington Post with a blown motor. The sad thing is all thats left from these trucks is the 72 CC from my uncle and the bed from dad's old 69...

WIFE'S FAULT
I fixed up a 78 Sub...my wife said do one for me, too. Not two Subs, how about a Blazer? They are about the same. Oh, look, the 72's top comes off---kinda like a hot rod. So, I promised when I got it finished it would be hers. That was 16 years ago. You know we never really finish one of our trucks. Still got it! Still not finished!

During the 50's and 60's my Dad always drove a white p/u. In late '69, he bought a '70 C-10 Custom..solid red...350/350.. I believe it cost $3495. I learned to drive with it and we kept it til the early 80's. I went on to other vehicles and always compared them to the '70 pick-up. In '98 I found an all original '70 C-10 CST. I drove it for a while with a burnt valve, then went to work on it...crate motor etc. After 2 years, I had everything done except for paint. Sold it in 2000 to a guy that works near my workplace. Every day for the last 3 years I've had to pass buy it on the way to work...Well I'm back, just bought a '72, and its white...I'm keepin this one!
This is my first post, so howdy. I've been very impressed with the board, thanx.

When I turned 16 in '80 I bought my '70 from Goodwill for $200.They had cars donated sometimes.Moms best friend was a manager.Put a hold on the truck till I got home from school.

I bought my first truck 67lwb at 15 with a lawn service then I thought I had to have a newer truck 78 hated but it got me thru high school. Dad help sell that one and I bought escort I hated that call I moved back home found a 68 swb had rocker replaced and was try to fix it up. then I went up to Minnasota for mor school and was forsed to sell truck while I was there I traded My escort for 69 lwb in real good shape drove it for 2yr kept going thru heads and had no where to work on it so I trade it for f**d. 3yr later I bouhgt my project that I m still working on 5yrs later. Now i also have 71 jimmy as my driver and next project that first truck had me hooked no matter what my dad made me do.

I hated old vehicles
I hated anything older then 90 when My dad gave me my 69 GMC Fleetside Longbed... At first, i was kinda wierded out by driving it, I wasn't used to it... All I have driven was a 91 Civic HB and A 96 Chevy Malibu...
I started to admire the look of the truck and started to feel the urge to beautify it and make it purdy. Then I started reading this site and I'm more knowledgable about our trucks now then any other vehicle. And I'm always eager to learn more. =) Also, I want more of these trucks! =P I guess that means that owning one got me hooked. Thank God for 67-72s!

My dad bought a 67 Chevy C20 with a 1 ton rear end and HD springs when I was young about 1975. It was a farm truck that had not been very well taken care of but the body was very straight. We used it to go hunting, get fire wood, christmas trees, and haul grass clippings in "OLD BLUE". I would drive it around every now and again when one of my cars was in the shop, wrecked, or when my girl friend ran off with one of my Cutlass S with a 350 Target motor my dad had installed in it 'cause the title was in her name for insurance reasons. So the truck came in handy from time to time. In 1992 my parents moved and behold I came home and "OLD BLUE" was gone. I was kinda upset but I figured dad did not have any use for it so it was gone. I kinda thought he should have asked me first if I had wanted "old blue" but I never got to find out where it went as I never got to see my father again. He and my uncle and my cousin and her boyfriend were flying a small plane to NC when it went down right after take off. He was attempting to get my cousin out when the plane blew up. So one day about 10 years later I started looking on the internet for a 67 Chevy. Then I found the '71 and '72's had power steering and disc brakes. Then living in Colorado I decided I needed 4WD. Then I saw the RED ROCKET on E-Bay with the GMC front end all in Chrome and new I had to have it. Here is how it looked on the e-crap 1.5 years ago

It's all the wife's fault. It started because we love the outdoors. Spent the best times in a boat and tent in Ontario, 2-3 times a year. Well bears have always been around, but never really in camp. That year there were several bears in camp every night. A light weight nylon tent doesn't give you that 'feeling' of security that real side walls do. On the trip home we decided to look for a truck camper and sell my new truck and lose the monthly payment. I wouldn't buy a 73+ if my life depended on it. Just too rusty. That meant 72 and older. There were 2 trucks with campers in the paper. Both just happened to be Ochre, but one was a big block and only had 49,000 miles. That was the one for me. Camper and truck for $3500 back in 1993.
My next truck was my 71 burb. As I went out the door to go look at it, my wife said I could get it as long as it wasn't that god awful "squash baby pooop yellow like the camper truck". Well, it wasn't the first time I didn't listen to her and I hope it isn't the last either! 4 Ochre and white trucks later and still looking for more. Hooked with a capital H!

I got hooked on cars when I was 15-had an opportunity to buy a 57 chevy from this guy who had stripped the goodies off the engine and was going to let it get towed to the junk yard-gave $150 for it (he was a bodyman-excellent condition in primer). in the early 90's my boss had a 72 four wheel that was fully restored-I didn't know anything about these trucks-it was twotone blue and white with wood interior. I've loved the look of that truck ever since-10 years later I have a 72 and am doing a frame off resto! I love everything about this truck-even though I've only driven it 5 miles :-) Nostalgia at its best!

When I was 8 or 9, I helped one of my neighbors work on his vw's. Another one of my neighbors had a prostreet mid 50's chevy that I loved. When he started it, it shook my WHOLE house. I would always run to the window to watch him back it out. When I was 13, my dad asked my brother and I if we wanted to rebuild an early fifties with him. We said yeah and he bought a 1950 chevy truck. Six years later, he still hasn't had the time to finish it, but hopefully soon. Then my brother bought a 95 chevy truck. So then I wanted one until he totaled it and I decided that I needed something bigger and heavier. He bought a 67 camaro after that, so I wanted one of those. My dad said I would have to wait until I was eighteen to get a camaro, so I decided I would get a truck. I liked the 55's, but thought that they would be too old for my first car. I had gone to a lot of shows and seen a lot of trucks like ours in shows and magazines. THey had become my favorite truck. So I decided to look around for one of these. I found one that was in good shape that I bought. Would change it for a camaro though. The next project is going to be another 68. Except next time, it will be a lot easier because I know what not to do! Then after that I may buy a camaro or chevelle or something like that. Then maybe a blazer. Soooooo many cars I want to build, soooo little time and money. Oh well, first I am going to help my dad get his done. THat will be sweet! Here is a pic of what my truck looked like when I bought it.

what hooked me. well, my dad an i were relly interested in restoring a classic truck. he was bent on an fo*d f-100, but i had 2 have the 67-72. we found the 72, and i fell in love with the truck. then, this fall, when i was cruising the backroads with the girlfriend, i got my first piece of tail in that truck. I will NEVER sell that truck. im trying to restore it, but its been hard cuase i need it as a daily driver. The thing that really hooked me was the looks and questions i got from all the gearheads, the kids, then old guys, everyone comments on my truck. i love driving inot a parking lot and having heads turn., its great

I guess what hooked me was riding in my dad's 72 2wd blazer orange w/ a white top. Nothing like riding in that when the top was off and cruising down the street on a weekend. When I turned 15 I was supposed to get a project pickup like my brother did. Instead we found my 72 bb lwb orange and white in NE so we took off right after seeing the ad and bought the pickup. didn't need to overhaul the engine till last year. That truck had way too much power for a 15 yr old but I won a lot of races with it and got a ton of speeding tickets, exhibition tickets and so on with it. cops would be like, what do you have under the hood?? I would smile and tell them, they would say no wonder you get into so much trouble. I even had a friends gf tell me the sounds of my exhaust turned her on. I couldn't ever let the truck go after that. No matter where I go in that pickup I almost always get comments on it. Can't do that in a newer truck that you pay 34,000+ on. It is now sitting at home in SD waiting for me to come back to her someday. I'll hope to never bring her back up here to MI. It is too hard on her (salt).
