Your Father is truly blessed to have 2 devoted son's that are turning out such an outstanding truck. My hats is off to both of you. He's really a lucky guy! What about Mom? She's not going to roll stock is she?

Re: pics of my lastest work('56 truck)
What an interesting build. Things are a little different. I like that. How did you come up with your frame design? How did you do the firewall? Did you get rid of the internal cowl to do it? What gauge sheeting did you use and do you have any pictures of the progress?

Re: pics of my lastest work('56 truck)
frame design is just a full length k member, it will all make sense when the truck gets caged.
no pictures of the firewall, but its all been sheeted in 20 gauge. what do you mean internal cowl? the vent? if so its history. |

Re: pics of my lastest work('56 truck)
Cage? I have been trying to find someone that has plans for a cage. Please tell me about your plans (4, 6, 8, 10 point etc). What kind of bender are you using and what radius. What kind of tubing and what size did you use for the frame and what tubing planed for the cage? Are you going to weld to the frame or bolt? How about outriggers.

Nice build! It looks like it's going to be a really super bad truck.

Not sure on points yet, but Im sure it will be in the 10 point range. It will be more or less a street cage as I will bend the door bars so that their low and the rear hoop supports will go through the back of the cab at the top of the bed to keep them low. cage will use floor plates and tie into the frame using slugs for sheer stress. not sure on the bender specs. Its a manual hydraulic one that sits on the floor and bends the tubing up though. Does a great job. |

Re: pics of my lastest work('56 truck)
cool, I have been wanting to see someone use one of these new 6 bangers....
interesting motor mounts..... not to sound stupid, but what are all the tubes on the chassis for? how many horses does this engine have stock?

Tubing it adds a crazy amount of strength and coupled with a cage will make this truck very, very stiff. the motor mounts arent my favorite but its what I had to work with. I'd rather use a large 4-link style bushing but these will work just fine. stock these engines make around 300hp/300tq. so call it 250ish at the wheels. We're not stopping with boost until its in the 600+hp range at the wheels. Probably going to take another, later model engine as this engine doesnt have piston skirt squirters but we'll see. It has a very stout bottom end and the head is huge and has plenty of room to be ported. so at least 120hp/hole is what we want and if the math is correct what we'll get. Its just a matter of building all the parts for it now. Turbo section is slightly difficult because I know what I want but Im having trouble finding the exact A/r exhaust housing I want. |

Re: pics of my lastest work('56 truck)
For a static drop with coilovers, that is lots of notch, especially if he cleans the remainder of the old frame out of there.

He's using coil springs in front and coilovers in the rear to lower it to a certain ride height (stance) which is fixed. No airbags. Like the yellow truck in my avatar Awesome work on the frame cajundragger. What did you use to cut all those tubing joints? Must've taken a while.... Bob

Re: pics of my lastest work('56 truck)
actually the plans changed and truck will be getting a set of shockwaves front and rear.
I cleaned the frame out the notch, and it allows enough room to set the rockers about 1" off the ground on a 27" tire. I think thats right but I'd have to double check. It'll get pretty damn low thats for sure. but the ride height of this truck is only about 3" at most. thats why I dropped the middle k member down so low so the scrub point on the frame is about .25" lower than the rocker. -to avoid sheetmetal damage. |

Re: pics of my lastest work('56 truck)
oh yeah the tube was cut with just a chop saw and fish mouthed with a harbor freight notcher thats beefed up with bigger bronze bushings.
so far I have about 5-8hour days in the frame work. |

Re: pics of my lastest work('56 truck)
cajundragger, Very nice looking tube work on the chassis. That should add a great deal of strength. Also I loved the color of your truck so when I built my sons bed (that he sleeps in) I painted it that color. Keep up the great fab work.
