Diameter is also a factor.....as the lenght gets longer, it requires a larger diam shaft. Any way you look@ it 6" is about the line on a 1 pc shaft. Take a look at the long ,large diam aluminum shafts, with the carbon fiber wrap.They are approx 5" dia, & still dont cross that 6" line. You can probably make a longer shaft in steel, but by the time you go large enough on the dia, its gonna be HEAVY, & a biotch to balance.....& will run only slow speed. If you want to talk 9" spans, you may find someone to do you one (carbon fiber)....but it sure wont be cheap! crazyAL
