Re: Red Baron
There are 2-3 sets of holes on front part of bracket to adjust up and down to where I need it. I put it on before the bed so I got it in the wrong holes.

Re: Red Baron
Cut the roof off today. Going to work on sanding and treating rust and get new top on in a few weeks. I did lay the skin on for a test fit though.

Re: Red Baron
The back side was not very bad. The worse part was the front corners and above doors on each side. TPO had holes started on each side in the seam sealer and never did anything to protect it.

Re: Red Baron
Are you cleaning that up before you weld the new sheet metal in?
Is that a original roof skin? How are you gonna treat the rust? Nice yamaha haha looks a little small for you. Ttr90? 125?

Re: Red Baron
Since you have the roof off (that is something I have never seen before), you might think about running a couple of wires up the A pillar for future use. Things like a compass rear view mirror, or map lights. I have seen a couple really nice overhead consoles that had thing that need power. Fishing wire up the A pillar with the roof intact is near impossible. Just a thought.

No it is an after market skin from lmc. But it fit really good considering I still have some metal pieces I have to grind out of the way. I am going to use Osph (http://www.ospho.com/directions.htm), My buddy uses it at his body shop to stop rust in its tracks. It is my sons. A ttr90 Last edited by srea76; 03-03-2010 at 07:06 PM. |

Great I idea. I have not really thought about it. I can see the wires to the cab light easy with the roof off. I could run some up and stick them in there until needed later maybe. |

Re: Red Baron
That looks like a tractor trailer, salt flat, rig thing? The good thing for all of us is we know are trucks will be show stoppers with that one out there!

Re: Red Baron
Got the roof skin on today finally. While the old one was off I grinded all the old seam sealer out. I also treated the roof for rust with Ospho and primed it before we put the new skin on. We run out of time so we will do the seam sealer back in place once I have another day off. At least I have a roof again and the rusted one is gone

Re: Red Baron
np. If you look on page 1 you can see why i replaced it. The old roof near the drip rail was in very bad shape.

Re: Red Baron
Great job on the roof!
Your inner skin wasn't badly rotted also? Check the pictures in my 1st post.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=394448 Water must have got in & just layed in between the outer & inner skins causing a lot of damage along the sun visers/rear view mirror area. Also, I was thinking the windshield & back glass were going to have to be removed. You obviously didn't have to just replacing the outer. Anyway, thanks again for the photos/inspiration Dave |

If you look at my initial pictures you will see its ugly on top, but I actually chizzled out a lot of filler they had packed in there to get those pics. The only spots actually letting rain in was on each corner above door. There was very little rust on inside of cab as it was just starting to bubble in spots. Although while I had the roof off I sanded everything on top and coated it all with rust treatment. Even spraying down in the pillars with a spray bottle to let it run down in there to be safe. I also primed it for extra protection when it dried. One thing I would do different is use some type of metal bonding glue I noticed someone else try for the back of the skin. I just tac welded mine in about 6-8 places along back seam and then seam silled it with auto sealer. I think it will be fine, but the glue would prob look better.

Re: Red Baron
nice project, absolutely hate the new beds on these trucks, you made a helluva deal on that swap, looking into doing the roof skin, and the cab on mine now to save money, looks fairly complicated though, did you find it time consuming or just all around challenging?

Re: Red Baron
it did take some time as I work on it on days off, but it was not very challenging. With that being said I can not weld so I got it fitted and ready. Then a friend did the welding for me.
