Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

I've got 23 sheets of 3/4" plywood in the bed of my truck right now. It is parked for the winter but I drove it around a bit and man do I have traction!!

LOL! yeah it's on my to do list. Right now I have red led's in there and the local law enforcement hasn't messed with me. That includes a highway patrol that saw me slide sideways one day when I got a little happy with the go pedal when making a quick u-turn in front of him! He pulled up next to me at the next light and yelled "get your foot out of it!" I apologized and told him I had just got it running and wasn't quite used to it yet, then off he went. I'm guessing he must have been a classic truck lover after how many import/street racers I've seen impounded for that sort of thing.

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

not sure what the most is since I don't drive over scales with my firewood loads. But they give the truck a nice cushy ride. This is my 72 k20 cheyenne super. It's getting fixed up a bit right now but will still be a truck I use since that's what they're for.

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

When i was a kid my dad had a 71 C30 long bed and because he was a plumber, it had 8' tool boxs mounted on the bed sides with a pipe rack above it.
In the spring we would unload all the tools/fittings from the bed and take it to a farmer we knew who was clearing woods to be turned into fields. Well we would load that truck up with green oak, ask, maple logs right up to the top of the pipe rack. The bumper would drag over stumps and almost on the ground driving out of the woods. We way way overloaded that truck for years hauling all our fire wood. We live in Ct and heated our home with wood exclusively. Never did weigh the loads, but I would guess at least 2-3 tons, based on how much the truck sagged in the back and the huge pile of green wood we would have after unloading it. I spent the the rest of the spring cutting, splitting, stacking that wood, while adding 2 more truck loads to the pile every weekend. Probably a good clue to my wrecked back, and just had my second surgery lol.
I was real proud of our Chevy's, and to this day, its the only truck I will own.
Wish I had pics.

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

We've had 7 tons on our 69 Dodge D300. I wish my dad had kept the receipt from the gravel company. Needless to say, the manual steering felt like power steering on the way back home.

The new process 435 trans with the super low first gear, dana 70 with 4.88s and the monster stack of leaf springs on the back helped out.

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

Right now, mine is carrying most of itself. All the parts I have pulled off to work on it is in the bed. Not sure about the steering, since the column is in the bed too! The truck barely sags!

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

My '95 half ton V-6 was a great truck. I went over the scales pulling a flat bed trailer full of dirt at right around 11,000 lbs... It's amazing how that V-6 would pull! If anybody is in LA, I pulled the hill up to the Scholl Canyon Landfill in 2nd gear, 35 MPH, no problem!

In my '69 1-ton Longhorn, I filled it with cinder blocks, and bags of concrete one time. We ballparked it at around 3500 lbs in the bed. I'm sure Longhorn Man can back me up on the fact that 3500 lbs is just a nice working load for a Longhorn. I still had probably 3" of suspension travel left and gobs of power to spare....

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

I know its a ford, but its still funny. This one didn't haul stuff in the bed. This was a repo truck for a company in detroit. The lift was under the bed and the frame bent so bad the bed smashed the back of the cab.

Ya'll don't know what overloaded is...and yes, it pulled it. Felt like the clutch was gonna fly out though...

Let's just say it took 4wd and everything that little six had to move it. The stack helped a lot. lol

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

I wish I still had the picture of a load of gravel I had hauled with my72 gmc, It was so heavy the box had bottomed out on the rubbers stoppers on the axles. The truck had a rear step bumper and evertime it went over a bump it scrapped the road. I thought I would have gotten pulled over because I had to drive through town but I got lucky.

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

I pulled a pickup (box trailer) behind a 78 c-20 flat bed (single axle rated @ 1 ton). The 2 pcs crossed the scale runnin in @ 6600, & crossed the scales comin out @ 14,720! Thats a lot of gravel on one old box trailer now Stayed in 2nd gear on that 400 t all the way home, & never got over 35mph. The tongue weight never sqauted the truck too much.....but that dam trailer was a tad bit squirley.

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

I went over the scales at a gravel pit at 16,780 lbs with my 5050lb 3/4 ton 72 chev coil sprung with three leaf overloads. I stopped adding topsoil when the tires started gettibg too close to the ground. Still had an inch of suspension travel left. Love my truck. We used to race, whith truck, camper, stock car and trailer we rolled down the road at 18,000 lbs, and could beat any turbo diesel one ton up the steepest of hills in the Rockies,

Two yards of dirt is the most I've hauled in my C10 in one load.

Re: What's the most weight you have hualed in your bed?

well I went back to the gravel yard today but they were closed. So I ended up having to go to a landscaping place that sells by the yard and is more expensive, so I ended up getting one yard. So that weighs about 3000 lbs. Then I went to home depot and got some 16' 2x4's and some 80 lbs bags of ready mix. so with everything in it it was prolly around 3300 lbs. I'm putting her back to work on monday...but first I have to get the gravel out. When I get more gravel on monday I'm gonna shoot for 2.5 tons. Then later in the week I gonna pull one of the 1 yard concrete mixers that you get prefilled. She had a ten year break so I gotta make up for lost time! Having this truck makes me realize that my ranger that I had for years was just a tonka toy!
