If cost is going to limit you I would stay away from any crossmember modification.

why is that smashing chuck...is chopping the crossmember going to incure any more purchases besides rebuilding the front end ball joints and control arm shafts? just wondering...I have a spare crossmember that I was planning on chopping in anticipation of lowering my 84 swb

Steering shaft is the first thing that comes to mind. Those Borgeson joints aint cheap.

If you chop down the crossmember, you need a new steering shaft to steering box?

Do a little searching here on the subject. There is a BUNCH of info. But, yes, you will need to re-route your steering shaft, however you have to do the same with the anything else really, ie dropmember, z, etc.

cool..I'll do some searching...didn't know the steering shaft would be a problem or I would have already searched...lol...I was also thinking about getting a drop member instead, but I want a static drop not bags...thanks for the info...

If your going that low, you will want bags. Driving low with a statc drop will wear you out.
