Re: 78 swb 1/4 ton?

I read an article in Custom Classic trucks today that stated the F44 package was mandatory for C10s with 454s. Makes sense if it includes heavier front springs.

Re: 78 swb 1/4 ton?

GVW is 6050 on this truck and it is unleaded fuel only. smog pump with cat. The difference is California emissions. California didnt recognize the federal standard of heavy duty in 78. Ill post some pictures. Its still in the original paint. Name: fuel cap.jpg

Re: 78 swb 1/4 ton?

GM PU trucks & vans were only available in series 1, 2 or 3. BUT In the 70's GM made a small short wheelbase single rear wheel delivery truck that looked like a small Stepvan and they were rated as a 1/4 ton. These trucks had a very light 4,000 lb GVW and came with a 250 6 cyl only (no optional engines) and 3 spd on the tree as standard (automatic optional). These were used for light city delivery (bread, dry cleaning, diaper service) I don't know how many were made, but they are the only factory 1/4 ton trucks that I am aware of. If I find any pictures of one, I'll post it.

Re: 78 swb 1/4 ton?

The F44 option listed for trucks was the HD chassis code. It would have upgraded a regular 1/2 ton into the "Big 10". The same chassis code would have applied a HD chassis to the P10 Stepvan (7 ft long, 102 wheelbase, 4000GVW) which was rated as a 1/4 ton.
