I feel that the rad support is salvageable. it looked really good when it was still in the truck. It looked good when I got it out. it looked OK after I cleaned it up.

I tacked a few holes up on the passenger side, but need to cut a patch piece and tack it in.

A while back i picked up some Doug Thorley Tri Y headers. They were at a recycling place up the road from me. THe old guy said he was told they came off an "old Chevy truck". He wanted $75, but I told him it was a gamble for me, since he couldn't say what year model they fit. I got them for $50. I feel a little guilty. Not much, though, just a little.

They had about 20 lbs each of caked on Caliche mud caked on each one. My power washer wouldn't take it off(!). I had to use the wire wheel on my angle grinder! I forgot to take "before" pic. These are "after" pics. THey still need a little cleaning. I hope they fit the 72 OK. If they don't, I think I can make my $$$ back OKby selling them.

My dad and brothers went to the Decatur swap meet this weekend. Dad picked up a few things

Original plastic grill insert to replace tube grill
Dark green arm rests to match dark green Cheyenne door panels I plan to use,
Dark green dash pad
Outer rocker panels (Unfortunately, I think I am going to have to do some repair to the inners as well. I will know for sure when I cut the outers off.)
Sill plates
Door hing pins and bushings

I spent the whole weekend at my folk's house down on the coast. I left right after work Friday at 3:330pm and got there around 6pm. I trimmed Live Oak tree limbs all day on my folk's 3 acres. Some had gotten so low to the gound that he could not get under them with his tractor to mow. It still amazes me how fast the limbs grow.

Personally, since I was out of town, I didn't get any work done on the truck this weekend. My dad did get one inner fenderwell cleaned up for me with a wire wheel on a grinder. Sorry, no pics yet.

I got a little done this weekend. I got the rusted spot patched on the core support, painted and mounted it, got the one inner fender well cleaned up and ready to paint.

I got the engine and trans set in as well, installed a new mechanical fuel pump and the PS return line hooked up. I will need to buy a new pressure line and a harmonic balancer soon. The good news is I sold $265 worth of parts from an 82 Suburban and 94 3/4 ton!

I have run in to some interference problems with the Tri Y headers. The driver side collector touches the lower rear control arm nut, and the passenger side interferes with the fuel lines. I thought that I had a set of old rusty headers I picked up a while back for $20, but I can't find where I stuck them (!)

No work accomplished this weekend. Bad weather Saturday and had to go out of town Sat for a get together with the in laws Sunday. The time change making it like I ws getting up at 4am instead of 5am didnt help much either.

I finally had time to get a few things down today. I wanted to work on it Saturday, but my wife and I had a bunch of junk to get rid of in our storage shed, so we pulled it out Friday evening and set up for a yard sale Saturday. We made $200, so it was worth it for the profit and to free up some space. I got my neighbor to help me mount the nice original rust free passenger side inner fender I picked up a few years back for $50 to an original rust free passenger side fender I picked up from a member on here for $75 earlier this year. I also cleaned up the heater box and go it mounted with new "chewing gum" and got the upper radiator mounts cleaned up and painted and mounted the radiator using new rubbers. I bought a Skip white HEI a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had time to stab it in yet. I did get the new trans cooler lines I bought from inline tube screwed into the trans, and mounted the high output internal regulator alternator from a diesel Suburban I parted out.

I only painted the inside of the fender for now. I think I might paint the replacement fenders something as close as I can find to the blue on the rest of the truck for the time being and compund out the rest of the truck. I will probably regret not mounting the emblems, though. They are a real PITA to get on after the fender is mounted.

I got a little done today, such as cleaning up and painting the stock ram horn manifolds and valve covers I picked up a while back, as well as the stock oil fill tube, lower pulleys and a few other misc. pieces. Will post pics soon. By the way, I am in need of a set of stock small block short water pump A6 AC compressor brackets. I have also posted a thread in the parts forum for them.

I see you have a very tight paint budget. Using DuPont you would need to triple that amount. I have used Kirker paints and have had good results. It would fit your budget. Just make sure you use all products from one manufacturer. If you have any patina rust showing through, you should start with an Epoxy primer.

My thinking is to buy a gallon of the olive green when I get ready to paint the outside, rough it up good and spray it with my buddy's HVLP gun. It is still supposed to look like an Army truck, after all...
