Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Thanks guys, I really need to update this thing. Its all back together now, all painted minus the bed since ive been reading kabwe's build thread ive got some ideas brewing for that. I finally realized im not going to be happy with my frame setup so im thinking about an S-10 swap. Ill try to put the grille and bumper on and take some pictures. Just finished remodeling my house so its been crazy lately.

What type of rims are those? Is the group buy still available?

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Well time to get back on track with this thing. I got it all mocked up tonight on the S10 chassis I got saturday. Trying to decide where I want the wheel to sit in the front fenders. I like it pushed back off center a little I think.
Ill throw the bed on tomorrow, I need to move the axle back a few inches since its a SWB S10. Plan was to take a few inches out of the bed anyway and maybe make the front of it curve more with the back of the cab. We will see. The frame should be going to see Slammy for the rear suspension this weekend, while he is doing his thing I need to fix some bodywork im not happy with. That fender was painted but when I drove it with the old frame I screwed it up. I also messed up the driver cab corner when I took the cab off, and chipped the driver door. BTW if it hasnt been said before CAMARO CLIPS ARE TOO WIDE FOR THESE TRUCKS. lol. I love the deep lip on the rears but man they look small, the 20s dont have this much lip.

Boss 338s, seems to be some drama going on with the group buy right now so I would say no.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
This is my 1st full body work and paint job too man. I used rage filler then blocked with 180, most of the truck got 3-4 coats of high build with block sanding in between then a sealer. There is still things im not happy with, like when I painted the cab I didnt use a sealer and you can see some variation in the sun on the roof. I missed a wave under the body line on that driver corner also.
Live and learn. Thats what this hobby is all about for me, the learning process. I normally dont keep cars long after I build them, building them is the fun part.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
No problem, most everything ive learned about these trucks has come from this forum and the HAMB. Search through the paint and body forum on here, tons and tons of great info.
I got the bed mocked up tonight. Looks like the axle needs to move back about 5.5 inches on this short bed s10 frame. I pushed the bed up as far as I could and it looks pretty good. I always hated the gap between the bed and cab on these trucks. Ill need to cut a little out of the running board and filler panel but I dont think im going to shorten the bed like I wanted originally. I dont want to mess up the proportions too much. Ill just contour the front of the bed to match the cab a little better. This works out pretty well. The engine is in the stock location on the S10 frame, the bed can mount to the stock S10 bed supports tho ill need to add about 8 inches to the rear of the frame. It looks like I could even run the original 1950 radiator if I kicked it out a few inches at the bottom like when it was in the camaro clipped frame. I spaced the engine and cab just like it was on the old frame. The engine sits higher now, ill need a different brake booster to be able to take the left valve cover off. Gotta figure out headers next, trying to avoid using those goofy S10 V8 swap headers. If I cant get shorties to work ill run manifolds. Tomorrow night ill unbolt the axle and take some pictures of it laid out. Gotta decide if I need to notch the frame in the rear, and if ill need dropped spindles up front. I want the front fender on the ground and a little rake in the rear.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Ill put some up tonight. I dont really understand why or how everyone moves the engines back so far on these swaps. My engine is in the stock S10 location and the HEI and trans dipstick are pretty close to the firewall.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
It seems to be that you wouldn't have enough room in the front for your fan with the motor in the stock location. I hope to mock mine up this weekend so we'll see....

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Ill have to put up some pictures. I have tons of room in front of the motor. The HEI is about 3 inches from the firewall.

What kind of paint is that and what color (cab)? Is it an intentional semi flat finish? Pearl, Metallic? I like it.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Spent a good chunk of time on this thing sunday. Made plates for motor mounts, modded the S10 trans cross member to work with my setup, cleaned up the trans and cut off all the un-needed mounts from the frame.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Frame is off to the suspension guy for the 4 link. Last night I started re-doing the fire wall. Decided I dont need the heater so the hole for that is gone, going to take another stab at the body work on it now that it is more accessable with the cab on dollies. Going to re-clear the whole truck while im at it. I got a little dry spray on part of the roof.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Great lookin build! I,ve got a '49 on a s-10 frame. On my truck i've just got the motor mocked up for now,but i plan to move it back a little so the headers will clear the crossmember. Sorry i dont have pics of my motor but it is in the stock location for now and i have tried several different headers and manifolds but they all seem to hit on the frame. From what i've seen if you move the motor back a little it seems to make alot more room for headers or manifolds.Hope this helps.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Still working on this thing. Finishing up some body work while the suspension is at my buddies shop getting done. Heres a sneak peak at the frame. Should pick it up this weekend then it goes for sandblast and some gloss black.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Lookin' real good. As several have said already, the thread title is very appropriate. Been 4 months since buying my '52 and I'm still waiting for the guys in the white coats with the special one that zips up the back.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Frame is painted! Might change the gray to red, looks great but doesnt really go with the truck.
Took it all to bare metal, ospho, epoxy, paint. Not perfect but beyond good enough for a driver. Link bars and rear end tomorrow, hopefully roller with engine by the weekend. Still have to add body mounts, bed mounts, engine mounts, running board mounts, and finish the rear frame section but it can be easily touched up.

I noticed you didn't cut the front frame horns off. Are you going to or did everything fit without having to cut them.
