Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

Believe me, Id rather start with an unmolested grandpas car (besides the 5spd) but one in decent shape around here is WAY out of my price range. He just emailed me back saying "trans is a borg warner world class t-5 from a mid 80's firebird" is that tranny any good? Could i easily swap in a muncie 4 spd?

I like the hydraulic slave cylinder type linkage on those, but its an adequate transmission for a 200 - 250 horse F body. If its strictly a stock engine, its fine, but not a great tranny for higher horsepower levels, and would be exceedingly fragile for doing actual "truck things" with your truck i would think

Yeah he said the motors around 330 horse now and the tranny wont take it if i beat on it. Itd be my second truck so maybe I can just drive it this summer then put a nice 4 spd in this winter. Anyone know if i can just swap a muncie 4spd in without a problem? See a few for around 700 bucks.
