Re: Favorite Parts store?
Autozone -- I could walk out the front door and be in the parking lot in three minutes Plus they always help me out and know all the right questions to ask me. It's six of one, half dozen of the other with most of these places, but the people that staff them make all the difference.
Oh, and they don't do this to me: "Ok, so you need a wiper control module...which motor do you have? is that a four-wheel-drive? automatic or manual? regular cab or extended cab?"

Re: Favorite Parts store?
I have Autozone, O'Reilly's, and Napa all within a less that 1 mile radius. I go to Napa when I can because it is a locally owned store, and the guys that I talk to for my parts have 67-72 trucks; therefore, know what parts I'm talking about. If for some reason they are closed (ie they shut the store so the workers can be with their family's for Easter) I might go to AutoZone. If they don't have the parts I need I will go to O'Reilly's, but they typically have teenagers working there that have no idea what I'm talking about. They ask for part numbers from me.

Re: Favorite Parts store?
my favorites are as follows
1.checkers(o'reilly's) 2.pep boys 3.napa 4.carquest 5.any place other than autozone 6.autozone ill buy my hard parts anywhere before ill consider buying hard parts from autozone.only way ill do so before shopping anywhere else is if any of the others doesnt have it.ive never had more headaches when it comes to parts shopping except for dealing with autozone.its like they have a commitment to hiring the stupidiest people they can find.only thing autozone is good for is buying fluids, filters and little things like gasket sealers or small things that cant be messed up.

Re: Favorite Parts store?
Wherever the best and most knowledgeable parts person works. Once you find that person, 2/3rds of your hassles are over.
Mostly it's NAPA for me, O'Reilly's if I have to, AutoZone or Advance if I'm absolutely forced to (which is to say, seldom to never).

Re: Favorite Parts store?
NAPA: on-Line for the past year. Zero problems / 14 orders. UPS makes it not worth it to drive to Los Alamitos (14 miles away), unless there's an emergency - or a battery purchase, like last weekend.

Re: Favorite Parts store?
I worked for Autozone for a couple years and will only give them my money if they are the only one with the part I need. I absolutely hate the company and how they treat their employees. I shop at O'Reilly's most of the time, the independents in town aren't really DIY friendly. They deal mostly with commercial accounts. Plus I have a cousin who works at O'Reilly's corporate office so I feel like I'm keeping family employed.

Re: Favorite Parts store?
I like O'reilly's. A friend of mine is the store manager so I get really good service, and a discount. There are several stores here and they are all pretty good folks, most of them are hot rooders so that helps.

Re: Favorite Parts store?
3. O'Reilly's if accuracy doesn't count (plus their commercial website sucks) but they are very close to home.
2. Napa for oil filters & their other "branded items" plus their wonderful staff. 1. Shop the most at Rockauto...NEVER gotten the wrong part and prices are great. |

Re: Favorite Parts store?
I really like Napa but I like how Autozone keeps track of your purchases by your phone number. You dont gotta keep up with reciepts for warranty stuff!

Re: Favorite Parts store?
I go to autozone and only autozone for several reasons. There the only place that I personally know the staff and there always joking around with me, asking me what Im working on now or asking me what I tore up this time. Plus there the only place I can walk in and use the computer system and walk in the back and find my own parts. Three, cause they dont ask me a bunch of stupid questions or treat me like I dont know what I want or need. I tell them what I want and they get it for me, no questions asked. (and they give me a 20% discount cause I only shop there)

Re: Favorite Parts store?
Only store in town is NAPA... when I go to the Big Dirty City (an hour away) there are Kragen & Autozone stores, which I sometimes use. Truth is, I don't need to buy many parts, so none of 'em will get rich off me, or miss me if I fell off the face of the Earth.

Re: Favorite Parts store?
Wherever the most knowledge is, no NAPA here anymore. I absolutely hate Walmartzone oops I mean Autozone. Advance has more knowledgeable folks right now, but they used to all be at O'Reilly.

Re: Favorite Parts store?
I don't have any parts stores near so first I visit the web-sites for Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone and O'Rielly's to check availability and prices. I normally have the part numbers when I go into one of them.
A friend of mine manages an Advance Auto Parts Store so I go there if nothing more than to shoot the breeze. I never go to Napa because they are two expensive. Fishers Auto Parts is pretty good if you get the right person to help you. I have worked at two box auto parts stores over the years. Unfortunately they don't pay enough to get experienced mechanics and their training program is not much. Danny

Re: Favorite Parts store?
I try & support my local parts store.
It's a little dirty inside, the counters beat to hell & the guys who work there can be grumpy. But....they still have parts books & know how to use them. I hate going to one of the chain stores. Why do they ask if the trucks got air conditioning when your buying brake shoes or U-joints? I also prefer junk Yards over salvage/reclaim yards. There is a difference.
