Re: Flip Kit help
Hey what is up with all the pics and product placements? I think someone needs to hit up Wal-Mart (super tech spray) and Dr Pepper for some cash for the advertising they are getting here under trucks!

Re: Flip Kit help
I found this spring perch at the new Tractor Supply Company in town for $10. I'm going to drill another hole to set the axle back an inch. I think all I'll need after that is shock extenders and a button stop for the frame stop.

Re: Flip Kit help
Start one up. It will be entertaining to see the "big boys" chime in on the same one with us "down to earth" guys.

Re: Flip Kit help
that kit is not for theses years of trucks..but you cut the rivits and bolt in those in place. alot of work.and you will have to cut some of the bed supports. also alot of people have did this kind of drop and they always want to go lower...........

Re: Flip Kit help
The stuff you pictured looks like it's useable. Are there any part #'s on any of them. I pretty sure the shackles will work, as they are pretty universal, the hangers I'm not sure, but check for a part # stamped into it (Bell Tech is pretty good about stamping there stuff). The flip kit is certainly a different kind than I'm use to seeing, but I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as the curved piece (which actually goes around the bottom of the axle when in the flipped configuration) fits tightly to the axle tube and remember the offset hole goes to the front. The spring perches and u-bolts should work as long as they are for a 3" axle tube as well. It looks like that c-notch kit is for the 73-87 frame rail because of the 45 degree"ish" relief, but without a part # I can't tell you for sure. As for the coil springs, how much of a drop are they suppose to provide? As long as they are the same overall diameter (not the actual coil, but the entire spring from "front to rear") they will at least fit and can be "modified" if they don't provide enough drop (read...CUT).
BTW...Here's a link to a flip bracket that I personally know fits our year trucks . http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/73-87...Q5fAccessories Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide to do. Ed Last edited by nlped; 04-11-2010 at 11:12 AM. |

Re: Flip Kit help
Those coils don't look like drop springs. At least not for our trucks. You may be able to use that notch, MAY.
As far as moving the spring hangers up...just drill out your factory rivets and move it up x" to the desired position. Then re attach with grade 8 hardware. Keith Seymore and a few others have done this mod. It is alot of work to get those rivets drilled out and then to drill the frame for new hardware. And as said, that is rarely enough drop for most people. If you are thinking of a flip, just flip it.

Re: Flip Kit help
I'm going to take the bed off today and see what I can do. If I need to I can make the notch work. I don't plan on drilling the frame, just welding the notch in place. Quick question, Do i need to put something throught the hole for the flip brackets? Thanks

Re: Flip Kit help
the only thing you can use out of that kit that you bought are the shackles (gm didnt change them for a while). That is a 88-99 chevy truck kit. I used one on my 96 tahoe and my 93 454 ss

It's been a while since I looked at one, but that kinda looks like 88-98 stuff.

Re: Flip Kit help
Ah-ha. My memory isn't as bad as I thought. I'm not the only one that feels that is 88-98 parts.

Re: Flip Kit help
I got it lowered. I didn't use the shackles, the hangars or the notch. I took a leaf out and flipped the rearend with the brackets. 69, n2trux and everyone else that said it couldn't been done, what kind of problems can I run into with how I lowered it? I've never done this before and don't want my kids riding with me if there's a problem. Thanks
