Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
Since we pretty much all know what these trucks look like when they come apart, so I'll save the space and just show the end results.
A bare cab: Here's the interior portion of the doors I have to work with. The passenger side is ok, aside from someone's half-brained attempt at a speaker install: The driver's side door is a bit worse off. It was donated from another truck at some point, and is quite a ways away from straight on the inside: Last edited by fryer1979; 06-14-2010 at 02:28 AM. |

Here are a couple pictures of the worst spot I could find for rust so far; the passenger side floor board. Not too bad at all.

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
Here is the 1980 Chevy I picked up for a parts donor to my '65. Somebody decided it would be a good idea to put a 1 ton dually rear axle on the back of this thing, ugh. Parts to sell off soon, guess I ought to upgrade my account.

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
I just haven't had any time yet to do anything other than take this picture, and that was on my way to work. My biggest complaint about the shift I am working on right now is that I get home too late to do much of anything. Finally being in summer helps, but I still can't run the compressor or any loud power tools at or after 11 pm (the neighbors complain if I do it too much). Hopefully when I get on my new shift on Sunday that will give me some time in the mornings when I get home to put a few hours in on the projects before going to bed. Then I will make some real progress.

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
Nothing to report yet, sitting at home on my Saturday morning while the HVAC repair man is working on our AC system. Once he's done I'll head out. Not sure about that 78, I'll see if I can message him and let you know later on this afternoon.

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
So here it is; an update to say there is nothing to update. Last weekend my little town had it's annual Main Street Cruise (a show where they shut down half of Main st. for a show 'n shine), and I've spent the preceeding week getting the Camaro ready. Then after the show I have been on a driving kick, so all of my free time has been spent on the road with the Camaro (we can all relate right?). I'm going to get to work on the truck a bit this weekend though, gotta start getting the donor truck stripped down. I'll post pics at the end of it all.
Edit: oh yeah, and finally almost 3 full weeks later, the ac is fixed. It was all I could do to keep the house from getting over 90 inside! Last edited by fryer1979; 07-03-2010 at 03:28 AM. |

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
Yeah I know. Seems like time, money, and everything else possible is keeping me from doing anything other than looking at my truck. I want so bad to be driving it, but there are just too many other projects that keep falling in the way. Sure I'll help ya figure out the photo/build thread thing. I guess I should have waited to start my own until I was actually able to make some real progress. At least one of us will be truckin soon.

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
So a fellow member's signature has given me some inspiration. I can't remember whos sig it was, or even exactly what the wording is, but it goes something to the effect of "even a nut and bolt at a time is progress". That phrase has been ringing in my head for a week or so, and I've finally decided to make it my motto for this project. Trying not to stress about not having hours to get major projects accomplished, and just focus on getting out to the shop every day even if it is just one small thing a day. That being said, I did get a few hours of work in over the weekend. Nothing specifically on the '65, but mostly disassembly work on the '80 parts truck since it needs to be gone before winter comes. I got most of the misc. junk parts from the engine bay, and the engine and trans are only a few short steps from coming out. Started working on the interior as well and got the door panels, and most of the dash removed. Sorry, no pictures to post today. i was going to do it after I was finished cleaning up tools, but lost track of time and had to bolt to get ready for work. I'll get some pics snapped and posted up when I go for my nut and bolt tomorrow.

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
Yay, pictures! This is about where the parts truck is sitting today. Got a few more nuts and bolts and parts pulled this morning after work.
Oh, and Redneck 6 mentioned the windowsticker that one of the previous owners put on the truck, so here it is. If it weren't for what I know "rival" fans or member might do to my truck or family, I would be really tempted to leave it there, it's just good humor to me. |

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
Since I don't have anymore progress pics to upload yet (progress really has almost been one bolt a day ), I thought I would share a photo of the truck I have found on this board that serves as my biggest movitation. It has been posted all over the boards so I am sure most are familiar with it. This is the stance, look, color, and style I am really wanting in mine, with the obvious exception that mine is a longbed. Also I am yet to decide if I want to order up the side trim kit or just weld up the holes like the one here. Again, this is NOT my truck, just what I want mine to be. Thanks.

That is the exact look that I love on these trucks. Thx for keeping with it man. I know this forum is to blame for my addiction.

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
I hear ya there Irish, between my own truck and what I see all over this forum I'm having a really hard time not buying up all of the 60-66 Chevys sitting around my little town. I need more space....
Well, a little update I guess. Work has been mostly on hold the passed week and a half, I just turned 30 last weekend and my wife and I thew a big BBQ party at my house. The last week or so has been mostly spent on getting the house ready for, then cleaning up after, the big party. Back to work on the trucks this weekend, that is of course after I spend Saturday in Reno cruising all of the beautiful rides there for Hot August Nights. I'll get some pics for y'all and post up in the pic thread. Cheers |

Re: Fryer1979 '66 C-10 Build
Thanks T. I've been going yearly since I was old enough to drive myself (1996). My father never liked cars for anything other than transportation and really hated (still does) my obsessive interest in then, so he always refused to take me or let me go with someone else. I love the show, and wouldn't miss it for anything.
