Re: Found a place to stash my spare motor
My wife is wanting to go with Marina Blue and a Black Landau top.... Her mom had one when she was a kid and I am trying to emulate it, with a pro touring twist.

Re: Found a place to stash my spare motor
Went with longer 2-1/8 inch studs front and rear, which necessitated pulling the rear axles out. The fronts can be popped out and the new ones slid in from the rear without too much issue. I am alot happier with the amount of thread in the lugs now.
I've drug those axles out of the housing so many times now that I'm worried about the seals. I'll replace them again once I get the locker. The stance came out pretty close with no rubbing so far. we piled my 2teenage boys onto the trunk to squat her down well past the top of the rims and the tires have good clearance. I figure with glass, exhaust, interior, and driver/passenger she should be fine, I may end up lopping off another inch or so in the front...I'll see once she's on the road and a few miles have been put on 'er.... Probably going to put the headers and steering column back in this evening once it cools down a bit, and then look at getting the exhaust and fuel tank aquired....

Put the headers and tranny back in, and figured I would crank 'er up for a bit to check for any leaks and enjoy the sound of open headers...

Re: Found a place to stash my spare motor
So we installed the flowmaster exhaust and man does she sound mean, switched out the eddy 1406 for an AVS thunder 1806 and you can hear and feel a difference in the engine. I dunno if my 1406 is messed up or just jetted wrong but I really am happy with the 1806 so far.
Started work on the pro-touring style dash, still in its infancy but its coming along nicely....Gonna see if I can get Mike (Frizzle Fry) to pop the holes in it for the gauges...

Re: Found a place to stash my spare motor
Marina blue is the best color from GM ever in my opinion. Can't go wrong there. And I think it goes great with black interiors (and top).

Re: Found a place to stash my spare motor
She wants to keep it a drivable project so we will probably go with Hot Rod Black until all the tweaks and mods are done. That will also give her a chance to completely settle on a final color, she has changed her mind 4 times now.
I know I wish I had held off on painting Screamin', there are so many things I want to do but cant in fear messing up the paint. Any ways heres a couple more pics of the dash. It sits kind wonky on the stand, so it leans forward a bit. It sits "flatter" in the car.

Re: Found a place to stash my spare motor
Thought this might be of use for those that are looking to go 700r4 and keep the install clean. I went with BTO (Bowtie Overdrives) 1406 TV Made Easy kit (130.00), Spectre universal throttle cable 2431 (20.00) , and the Summit G1327 (10.00) dual return spring kit. The Summit part is designed for a Holley but works on the 1406/1806 with some trimming of the base. This whole setup looks and works good in the chevelle and with some tweaking would work quite well with our trucks too.

Re: Found a place to stash my spare motor
Nice project! I had a 67 el camino that went through many differant bigblock/tranny combos when i was younger, wish i still had it!
An air bag inside the passenger side rear coil spring makes a hell of a differance in the traction dept on these cars, and yes 4 wheel non power drum brakes make for some interesting stopping to say the least! |

Re: Found a place to stash my spare motor
Wow, its been a long time since I updated this thread... Took last summer off to have some needed surgery and do some work on the house... The Chevelle was put on the back burner, til now...So... where do I start?
We yarded the motor back out and threw it in Screamin to replace her old 307, probably a good thing as it was way more motor than the wife needs or wants. We built a mild 375 horse Vortec 350 as my sons senior project and it now resided between the frame rails of the Chevelle. Been busy with the interior and audio stuff as this will be a driver for the wife. We finished out the floors, and trunk pan, added sound deadener, insulation and did some custom stuff to the package tray and seats. Started some body work, basically waiting for some sunshine to crank it up a bit. Spent the winter collecting parts... Lots of little stuff going on, but it will really start takin' shape soon.
