Re: Post your tow pig / trailer...

Here's my shop truck / tow pig. I'm actually thinking about selling it or trying to trade for a C-10, or regular fullsize pickup. Only thing I pull is a car trailer.

It is WAY north of 100 pounds. I'll need an extra bag or two of sand in the bed for plowing next winter.

It's a different game when it comes to diesels and towing. If you want a solid 4x4 tow rig GM isn't the way to go with their IFS. SFA's are only found on Dodge and Ford's. Ford has a solid powerplant in the 7.3, and the later 6.0's weren't too bad (if you got lucky enough to get a good one) The newer 6.4's are powerhouses but with that they get like 10mpg.

The Dodge has the Cummins, and anyone who has one will tell you that you pretty much buy the motor and it just comes wrapped in a dodge. My 07 is a torque monster, I love it! The only thing is the truck is kind of cheap feeling, doors feel like tin cans, and the interior is kind of crappy. I know the new body styles really stepped up their game in interior comfort.

I would love to have a Duramax, and the trans is bulletproof on those things but independent front suspension is a deal breaker.

In 1999 I was looking for a diesel pickup and Chevy didn't make one back then. And when you look up Dodge in the dictionary it says "avoid" That left me with a Ford Powerstroke. It has been a great truck and still is.

I had a dealer purchase go bad and happened upon my powerstroke. The only ford I can say that I don't mind driving, but would love to have a duramax some day... long box crew cab dually 4x4 please!

Hey...I liked my Ferd

I had a Duramax too, but I never towed with it. And my 04 cummins with the NV4500 manual trans, that truck was tough as nails and got close to 20-22 mpg on long unloaded trips.

Tow "RIG" and work truck, 2006 K3500, 6.0L auto, has hauled home all the non running trucks I've bought. The yellow ambulance was the donor frame for my 83 K30 dually. Tilt bed trailer is awesome for winching up non running trucks. Use a boat electric winch and bring a come a long as a back up.

Re: Post your tow pig / trailer...

I have plenty of ways to tow my junk home. Most of it comes home with the ramp truck, but if it long distance, I go with the Z71 and my trailer. My '67 C-30 diesel dually is going to replace most of the Z71's dutys as soon as it is competed.
