Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Started the tear down today. We got a lot done. I am stoked to finally get to work on it again.
By claypool782 at 2010-07-08 By claypool782 at 2010-07-08 I am going to load it on the trailer tomorrow and take it to the car wash to get the big stuff knocked off. Then we are going to work on pulling the motor and trans. |

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Hey guys, not too much to report. I ended up getting the engine and trans pulled. To be honest I am really starting to get nervous about getting this thing back together. Seems quite daunting. But on the other hand I know there are enough people on here that have done it that I can get all the help I need. Anyway, here are a couple of final shots. I am headed out to work tonite or in the morning so this is how it will set for the next month or so. Next time I am home I will put the new suspension under the new frame. All the parts for my lowering kit finally arrived so all that will be going on as well. Then I can start transferring parts over to the new frame.

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Got a bit of an update. I finally got all of my suspension pieces sand blasted and painted along with the body mounts and some other stuff. It should be a roller again by Sunday.
I tore into the rear end and figured out why this truck was such a dog. It has 2.76 gears in it. They will be getting replaced shortly by some 3.73's. Anyway, Here are a few pics of the painted bits. I will post some more after bolting it all up this weekend. By claypool782 at 2010-08-06 By claypool782 at 2010-08-06 By claypool782 at 2010-08-06 |

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
I am headed back out to work tomorrow evening so that is probably it for now.
Next I want to finish up the steering and get this thing sitting back on it's own wheels so I can start transferring stuff over from the old frame. Then I want to get this feller I know to come help me install some 3.73's in that rear end. Last edited by baclay9; 08-09-2010 at 10:32 PM. |

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Well guys, made a little bit of progress while I was home last time. No pics though so I guess we will just have to call this a teaser till I get hame again.
Got the 3.73's put in thanks to ALOT of help from Scott62. Also replaced all the bearings and seals in the rear end. Found a set of rallies with caps and rings and had them sandblasted. I painted them with a Rustoleum Stainless Steel paint. It looks pretty good on them I think. I am going to mount tires on them and put on the caps and rings when I get home this time and I will decide if that color is going to work for me. Also decided to swap my 350 for a built 454. I had a very well built long block dropped in my lap and even though it is going to ruin my chances of running A/C (large cam) the little boy inside me just can't pass up the oportunity to put a Big Block in this thing. Anyway, that is about all I have to report this time. I will get some pics when I get home. Plans for this time at home are to put all the steering components/brakes on the front end and try to start moving some of the fuel lines and stuff over from the old frame. I would love to get the gas tanks moved over as well but I will have to see how much time I have. |

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Be careful that little boy inside you can cost you a lot of money!
Sounds like you made some good headway. I think you'll have a lot of fun with the 454. |
