Re: 1970 steering column

Just a side note on u-joints, cpp has some very nice ones for 50 bucks a piece. I also believe Jeff had a deal for 2 u-joints and shaft for 100 bucks plus shipping. I do know it's too late now but others might like to know.

Re: 1970 steering column

since im going to do the steering column. im thinking of changing the rag joint
looks like the auto parts stores dont have rag joint for my truck but napa has a universal rag joint that works on 70 chevy. would this ok to use on my truck?

Re: 1970 steering column

I have a 1970 steering column
And never installed one before.
And I have the power steering helper
That gives the manual power steering PoWER.
I didn't feel like changing my power steering box
To a 70 and have to buy the adapter.
I purchased a u-joint Borges dd on one end and a 3/4 36 spline on the other and I purchased a dd bar about 18 inches long. Also universal rag joint

Re: 1970 steering column

I installed the 70 column. Replace rag joint and measured my bar so I know how much to cut. the 70 are longer than the 65 steering column so it worked out. I welded the bar to rag joint metal part. You don't have to weld I belive truckandcarshop.com has a part with the bar already connected together

Thanks for the extra info, I think I understand what you had to do. I've been looking at the parts and couldn't see how to make them fit. Finding truckandcar.com was the most help. Their catalog has an incredible amount of parts.
