Re: VA72C10 Longbed Patina'd Driver
Definitely excited to have one i can tinker one without blowing it all apart.
I will end up painting the rear of the frame when I do a C-notch. Then will paint under the cab when I do cab mounts. Then under the engine when I take that out to put my shiny parts on.... I'll definitely be on the lookout for a cool in dash stereo....probably try to fit it between the cupholder and radio cutouts combined with a touch screen. I still have the 4spd column....but I want a tilt one...it's a std. I definitely want a pro-charger but that will wait. Undecided on carpet or a new mat. I will use this truck so might do a black mat or a green one if I find one.... Also thinking on the seats if I want to use the 73 buckets I have and a center console I'm getting ready to rebuild for them with the billet cupholder in it.

Re: VA72C10 Longbed Patina'd Driver
Well, got a few hours to work on it today.
Started off with the CLR treatment 1 part CLR with 4 parts warm water. Use a green scotchbrite pad. Start gentle and scrub as needed I actually didn't have a green scotchbrite so I started with an older sponge from our sink with the coarse area on the back. Got the hood soaked with the solution and started seeing how it would come off and didn't. Went ahead and applied to the entire truck focusing on the more rusty areas of the bedrails, top of tailgate, and the bed floor. Worked pretty well. I ended up using a grey scotchbrite pad I had to scrub on the hood and got the surface rust at least smoothed down and revealed a little more paint. I'll get better dry pictures tomorrow to compare to what it looked like before. Quick question...I really like how the truck looks when wet. If I got some sort of polish and/or wax would i be able to get the paint to look this way?

Re: VA72C10 Longbed Patina'd Driver
Then worked on replacing all the cracked old lenses. I am looking for opinions on the taillight lenses. I really thought the clear would look nice with the white but now I'm not so sure. Thinking of buying some of the red ones with the LED's in them now....
Anyone notice the difference here? Now notice the two differences? Well, three really but one won't show... And the overall look...

Re: VA72C10 Longbed Patina'd Driver
I would just power buff the crap out of it.
Then apply some wax. Looks good.

Re: VA72C10 Longbed Patina'd Driver
And the final pictures from today. I started the arduous task of removing the bad wiring and alarm/aftermarket gauges, etc...
Got a good amount accomplished but then ran out of time and light for pictures. Will hopefully finish stage 1 of the interior tomorrow. Here's a comparison of the gauges...it's a teaser for the look I'm going for... And finally, the money shot of the day....

Looking good! Personally, I like the side marker lights, but prefer the red tail lights. That's just my opinion though.

Re: VA72C10 Longbed Patina'd Driver
Those clear tails look horrible. They look like the housing with no lens. Go back to the stockers. No led. Blue dots would be better.
Get some new side markers also. The clear look old and faded. JMO...with love. Wax the piss out of it, and it will shine. And everyone stop telling him he got a good deal, I'll never afford it now... |

I'm going to keep the sidemarkers though. I really like the look of those. If you ever buy it you can change them out I will check for sure when I take them off but I'm pretty sure they are 8" fronts and 10" rear with 5-5 1/4" backspacing.
